The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for the June, 2008

It's that lovely time when Haru (Spring) becomes Natsu (Summer) here at Catgirl Island with Tsutsuji (Azalea), Botan (Peony), Shobu (Iris), Hasu (Lotus) in bloom. Various June occasions at our cordial coastal Carolina community also include festivals for those aforementioned flora, Fathers Day, Flag Day, Summer Solstice, Shavuot, Kamehameha Day, Bamboo Faire, and Wild Rice Matsuri. This is the most popular month for catgirls, mermaids and fae (oh my) to have their weddings.

Favorite spots for such betrothals in addition to the various churches, temples & shrines include The Kitt Inn ryokan, the 18th FAErway gazebo, Susanowa Beach, the riverwalk bridge in beautiful downtown Purrbank, the reefy grotto by Sheila May's... and the Island Skeet & Trap Club for those occasional shotgun weddings! Of course there is the scenic courthouse with the 1:1 scale giraffe sculptures (an art grant) mingled amongst the towering royal palm trees in the courtly courtyard.

There are abundant sporting activities all over the island as May is a fine time to go cycling, running, dancing, climbing, swimming, diving, surfing, skiing, boating, kite flying, shooting, and of course, the catgirls love to go fishing. You could easily find a game of golf, tennis, soccer, cricket, baseball, frisbee or beach volleyball. Should the Summer heat purr-ove too intense, one can retreat indoors for cool billiards, bowling, dancing, gymnastics, yoga, martial arts, hockey and roller derby.

Of course, leisure time for the town's catgirls & mermaids & fae (oh my!) isn't limited to sports, festivals, dining, gardening and marriage. Several highly anticipated films premier this month such as Get Smart, The Incredible Hulk, Kung Fu Panda, Sex and the City, and WALL-E. Hopefully the nearest theaters will screen those! There are lots of other tasty cultural events going on. Purr-sumably after all of these many fun activities there will be much cat napping with full tummies in the sun.

Catgirls take their power naps quite seriously, purr-ticularly after Catabolizing the tasty food after all that frisky playtime. This indicates that for the catgirl fiance or bride, you should consider purr-chasing for her something comfy for the napping. Depending on your budget and her modesty, might we suggest for the catgirl in the Summer heat: pajamas, yukata, babydoll negligee, oversized sleeper tee, a loose crop top & boxer shorts, or a fluffy pillow for that sleepwear- optional catgirl.

Catgirls are quite fond of napping in the sunny sun on a warm roof top, so a cool bikini and a spacious beach towel would purr-obably go over well. If you are the one who'll be purr-posing marriage, few things win a catgirl's heart (and tummy) more than a fine kettle of fish. You'll have to determine her purr-furred kind of fish and not just the flavor or how to purr-pare it, but just as you might with flowers, make sure to research the meaning associated with giving that specific kind of fish.

We had such a wonderful time at Bot Con and Animazement and would like to thank all of the wonderful kind, talented people there that contributed to all the fun, from the con & hotel staff, guests, dealers, artists, friends and fellow fans! We are anticipating another awesome Heroes Con and also considering Neko Con too.

Updates to this site include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the ladies of The Mew review and discuss cinema / television, mewsic, internet, games 'n toys, literature, comics / manga, cons & costumes and other visual & purr-forming arts as purr-taining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror.

Mew illustrations by Mike Moon in Art Gallery 5 include "The Ladies of The Mew", "More Igor", "Kitt Flash" and a couple of older Trek pics. There are also banners on the links page, should you like to use them on your sites to link here! There are a few new links there too. There are three lovely additions to the Guest Gallery, of 3 delightful illustrations by Niki Lemonade and Becky Kittenpie! Domo Arigatoo to our friend and web master Jamie for keeping our web sites so well groomed!

Thank y'all for visiting! We wish y'all much southern hospitality & aloha spirit!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for March, 2008

Mike was very very honored to be among the guests at What The Hell Con, a delightful little convention at the very pleasant Guilford College last month. They had a record attendance this year, and could not have enjoyed a better time. Everyone there was so friendly, and the marvelous con staff did such a superb job at creating a most fun 'n festive environment. This convention gets our highest recommendations, and eager anticipation for going again next year! Domo arigatoo gozaimasu, What The Hell Con!

The Merry month of March is purrticularly significant in both an astrological & astronomical sense to the catgirls of this island, in that the zodiac sign and constellation Pisces is significant, although it really does not require so much to remind them of fish, However it does indicate Take a Catgirl to Lunch Week, and it would be a good time to buy a bouquet of daffodils to accent the table for those special catgirls' fresh fish dinner(s). Locally caught crabs, lobsters, shrimp, scallops, and oysters would also win their hearts.

That is not the only special event this month, for there is also the continuation of Mardi Gras, Womens History Month, Womens Day, National Reading Day, Ash Wednesday,
Saint Patrick's Day, Vernal Equinox, Hanami, Honen Matsuri, Easter, Purim, Arba'een, Earth Day, Wrestlemania, our Aquamarine Festival, Daylight Savings Time, and the
local mermaids' Tides of March festival. That would be a good time to buy that special mermaid a numcious landfood dinner.

New tidbits for the site this month include the monthly installment of The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, aka The Mew! The March Mew is a cosplay special in which catgirls Jeanie, Lizzy, Mary Nyan & Yvonne, interview four cosplayers in addition to the usual 13 Lucky Kitty Web Comics Picks of the Litter.

There are 3 illustrative additions to the mewsium's Art Gallery Four and 2 in Art Gallery Five for your consideration, a revised pic #170 in Gallery Five of the catgirl goddess "Purrsephone", and we've also added several links to the golf course! Thank y'all for visiting- we wish you much southern hospitality & aloha spirit!

Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for November, 2007

Aloha y'all! It is the cooler autumn season, chilled by the mid-Atlantic Ocean breezes and the ghosts that might be dancing the dark. One can never tell what lurks in the maritime forests...

It is a colorful time on the island, from gold and pink chrysanthemums on Course No.2, to the rich scarlet and amber Maples along the downtown riverwalk. And no trip would be complete without a bike trek through the lush emerald bamboo groves, to enjoy a basket full of banana sammiches and sweet iced tea in a cozy spot amidst the dunes, with a hammock for napping.

It can be such a busy season of football & festivals yet the quieter moments are far from silent as the cicadas, loon and crickets perform after sunset, and the evening lanterns have been lit. In addition to all that activity on the gridiron, faerways and beaches, this month's fun includes:

Diwali, Gagaku Dance, Shichi Go San, Cultures Day, Samhain, All Saint's Day, Thanksgiving Dia de los Muertos, Veterans' Day, Children's Day, Remembrance Day, Diabetes Awareness Month, Native American Month, Arab American Month, International Drum Month, The Leonid Meteor Shower Viewing, A Catgirl Island Film Festival, and the end of Daylight Savings Time!

Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for October, 2007

Aloha y'all! It's the cooler autumn season, chilled by the mid-Atlantic Ocean breezes and the ghosts that might be dancing the dark.

It can be a rather busy time of football and festivals, yet the quieter moments are far from silent as the cicadas, loon, and crickets perform after sunset, and the evening lanterns have been lit. In addition to the usual activity on the gridiron, faerway and beaches, this month's fun includes the dance festival, archery and fishing tournaments, Oktoberfest, and Halloween celebrations!

Which means customary large bowls of treats by the door for the sweet fang of a trick 'r treater, and these catgirls are known to eat vast amounts of holiday morsels. They're purrticularly fond of fresh fish and roast beef, should you plan on providing fare to costumed visitors on Oct 31st. They say it's good luck to feed a catgirl on Halloween, but then it's usually catgirls that say that.

On the mainland in Raleigh is the ever so fun North Carolina State Fair which means contests, performances, displays, critters, games and numcious foods that tempt many a catgirl's tummy. That is purrcisely why they play so much beach volleyball, to maintain their svelteness after so many meals & catnaps. The mermaids don't seem to have that problem, but that is another tail.

But wait- there's more! Among new tidbits for October are The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings latest monthly reviews of science fiction, fantasy & horror genre books, comics, toys, movies & TV shows. So, please join Elizabeth, Yvonne, Jeannie and Mary Nyan this month as they also welcome a couple of special guests to 'The Mew'!

Meanwhile, there are some new spiffy images on display In our Moonsium of Art. In the Guest Gallery, we're very excited to present a a lovely new faerie illustration by our talented friend Bix titled "Night Faever"! Given the popularity of works by Bix here, we think this latest acquisition- a companion piece to a prior fae pic, will be one of the most collections' most admired pieces!

There are also a few additions to Gallery 2! We're pleased to present for your consideration, a few annotated examples of Mike's photography, This first batch of photos has not been shown for several years, and we hope to add more pics 'o people, plants 'n planes in coming months!

Upcoming appearances:
Mike is quite honored to be among the guests at What The Hell?! Con, a most delightful and free little convention at the very pleasant Guilford College in Greensboro, NC February 8-10, 2008!

Mmm, thassabout it.. Thank y'all very much for visiting, and please enjoy our island hospitality!

Mews & Announcements for August, 2007

Aloha, y'all!

August is a hot time for the festive-minded, with celebrations of lanterns and bonfires,
and a great time for bikini clad catgirls to bask in the sun on the fine sandy beaches or to luxuriate in the hot spring baths. Maple tree leaves seem ablaze in rich gold & red color, hot sauce for that bucket of shrimp, and even hotter salsa dancing at the midnight hour...

But one can enjoy a cool time as well, swaying in a lofty hammock in a new beach house breezeway, sipping a tasty beverage under the arbor of the town river-walk, or a tall cool one by the towering magnolia and azalea-scaped fare-way. The crystalline ocean waters from shallowest turquoise pools to deepest azure depth offer a most exhilarating plunge!

White and pink Lotus bloom in the water gardens by morning light, then take a siesta as the noon lunch crowd dines amidst lush beds of Chrysanthemum and lovely live mewsic. Evergreen trees and bamboo thickets enshroud the misty onsen of the inns, forming tall curving corridors of emerald along the bike & walking paths through the maritime forest.

There are waves to be ridden, fish to be caught, shrines to tour, baseball in the park, and the mewseums of art to explore. Finally, if you have the time, purrhaps you could read our Catgirl Critics interview with the cast of the web comics Clan of the Cats and Sebo's Kitty Club! and there's a lovely a mew addition to the Moonsium of Art's Guest Art Gallery!

Thank y'all for visiting!

Mews & Announcements for June, 2007

Aloha y'all!

Summer is here, which means bustling fun, on sand 'n surf... anywhere under the sun! Kites & balloons fill the sky so blue, of course the shaded inland areas are hopping too -from golfers at morning tee by the sea, to caffe shoppers sipping their own tea casually; along the bike paths spin the cyclists' wheels, and into the boats tasty fishies are reeled!

The surfboards are waxed, the hammocks are strung, and from many eaves the Coy Windsocks are hung. From Salsa to Hula & Belly there's dance, the vernal breeze on the coast fills hearts with romance! Crowds mingle with drinks in galleries open quite late; and platters of sushi are served, made from eels (caught with bait)!

Azalea, Peony, and Lotus all bloom, while at night the festivals' fireworks go BOOM! Scent of iris and Wisteria linger in air, as bikinis and volleyballs bounce everywhere. Yacht sails are raised for a day on the ocean, as sunbathers spread on the SPF lotion. Softballs are swung at in hopes of home runs, and catgirls eat nummy cinnamon buns.

Yeah, we like it here!

If you've not visited in a while, you'll notice a few additions. In the Moonsium of Art. We've added some wonderful new illustrations by guest artist friends. There is even more of my own art on display; with Gallery 4 full, we opened Gallery 5, and gosh it is almost full too! It's been a prolific time between the newer creations and some older works we dusted off.

We hope you'll enjoy the imagery!

Continuing a tradition here at Catgirl Island, our Web Picks of the Litter for the month are: Sunrise Shock Theater, The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, and Trinoc*coN's web site.

That first one is our pal Jamie's (Clan of the Cats) monthly commentary on classic older horror, science fiction & fantasy films. The second site is also a monthly page dedicated to those genres, but in a more a chatty discussion of recent films, TV, books, comics, etc. Thirdly, Trinoc*coN is the Triangle Area's Speculative Fiction Conference in it's 8th year!

We hope y'all will enjoy your visit!

Mews & Announcements for May, 2007

Hi folks- we're back! Allow me to explain what happened... Back in 1998 I started to ponder a website to showcase my artistry, with catgirls as your tour guides to give the site a hopefully aMEWsingingly memorable quality, and that ultimately evolved into a mythical place I created & named Catgirl Island (long before any other folks did with other unaffiliated websites of the same name). The site, designed to be a mythical island populated by catgirls and mermaids and fae off the North Carolina coast (see map) went online in early 2000 to showcase my own illustrations, photography, stories, and even a few choice tidbits by guest contributors. Who knew that just a couple of years later I'd be dealing with certain anxieties in my life and grow quite weary of maintaining a web site, dealing with spammers, telemarketers, art thieves, imitators, server outtages and so forth. And so it was with a great deal of sadness that just a few years later I failed to renew the domain name, then catgirlisland.com, and I shut down the website. Which unfortunately allowed some unknown other person to snag that domain name. But I suppose absence make the heart grow fonder, as I later began to regret shutting down my site, especially as an illustrator/ designer trying to make a living by drawing catgirls, going to conventions & art shows and telling customers that I no longer had a website, when it seemed that everyone else did.

Many a friend and client would often say how they missed my site and hoped I'd restart it someday. Plus, the catgirls were getting bored. So after a lot of soul-searching I am no proud to declare that the original, first, official Catgirl Island is back online, with a slightly new look and a new URL, catgirlisland.net. Accept no substitute! The site is just now being rebuilt from cat scratch, so it'll be a while before we're fully restored, with all the old images plus many new ones y'all might not have seen. Please bear with us- we're getting there And by 'we', I refer to myself and my dear old friend Jamie Robertson whom I've known since elementary school Jamie is the co-designer of this '2.0' and the webmaster, as if that were not enough on his plate because he's already busy enough with his own Clan of the Cats, Sebo's Kitty Klub and other fare. Jamie, I canna thank you enough! While I'm at it, there are others I wish to thank. There's Margaret Coin, who taught me so much about the computer and how to use the software that was the architecture for Catgirl Island years ago. Then there's my pal Mike Teague, who was my poor over-worked webmaster on the old site. There are so many other members of family, friends, and clients, that if I were to name you all this little message would cease to be a 'little' message, but over time I hope to acknowledge all of y'all here where the catgirls enjoy their festive fun under the moon and sun. Speaking of which, they have been patiently waiting for me to bring them their fish sammiches for some time now, so enough rambling for now. Expect more soon... and be well!

Thanks everyone -

Mike Moon, creator/ founder of Catgirl Island
