The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for August, 2010!

August might be the waning end of Summertime, but it is still a purrticularly warm festive month! While it's not as hot 'n humid here as on the Carolina mainland, one should still take the purropurr purrcautions when out in the heat to purrtake of the sunny August beach volleyball, softball, golf, fishing, surfing, sailing, cycling, hula, salsa and belly dancing, nya.

The frisky fun can wear a catgirl out in this weather, so one should be purrpared for the impurromptu catnap in the shade. Although it is natural to spurring out of the hammock after the nap, catgirls should make sure their tail is not caught in the ropes. Also, they should not purrk up at every loud Cicada, mistaking the buzzy bugs for the alarm clock, nya.

The catabolism will need to be purromptly replenished after the play & sleep, so bikinis & cut-out maillots are the purreferred appurral for those activities as well as the dining. This is not only due to the sexy style of the garments, but there is less fabric to be stained by any spilled nilla ice cream crepes, which can be easily washed off at a nearby shower, nya.

That applies to any flavor of the dessert, or the seafood entrees that tempt a nekomimi tummy. Or the faerie, mermaid, kitsune, and other folks' tummies too, and a good way to win their heart is to bring her the fresh fish dinner, be it a Purrmit sammich, filet of Purrch or the Snappurr sushi. Mollusks, Cephalopods and Crustaceans would be welcomed too, nya!

By the way, the gemstone of the month is the Purridot, but if that is too purricey a gift for that special catgirl, we purrscribe a purretty Purrimrose lei or a tail corsage. This could be worn to one of the island's August activities, such as the Friendship Day purrade, Floating Lantern matsuri, the Bon Odori dance or numerous other cultural & sporting events, nya!

It is not all the frivolity though, as we do have the purrofessions, schools, domestic duties or other purrudent, purroductive purrposes to attend, to maintain our happy, healthy island lifestyles, but we are so very grateful for our the families, friends, food, flora, fauna & fortunes, hence the exuberantly celebratory ambiance of our purrovidential purrrovince, nya!

Speaking of the cultural purrsuits, we are purroud to purrsent Guest Gallery Two  in the mew wing of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, to house more wonderful art by our friends! It appurropurriately purremiers with a pic by our web master Jamie Robertson, nya!

That scene of his Clan of the Cats "On The Beach" was when Cynthia (in the pink maillot) was still purregnant. She doesn't seem to be having as much fun as Chelsea (in the black bikini top & white Yoga pants) & Corinne (in the black bikini). Jamie pencilled & inked the drawing & digitally colored it in Photoshop, nya!

We are also delighted to showcase more of the illustrative & cosplay fan-artistry of our friend Misty Norris! The first of these four mew pics is Misty's "Vocaloid" fan art, which is a purretty Purrismacolor pen, colored pencil & acrylic rendering of the popular Vocaloid characters frolicking amongst the stars, nya!

The next three pics are are photo collages, each with a few images of her costumes, nya! The first collage is "Misty's Taokaka Cosplay", purrtaining to her supurr spiffy costume of Taokaka, the feisty fighting catgirl from the video game Blazblue, nya! It has changeable expurressions, removable claws, a spurringy tail, and long silky braids, nya!

In the 2nd collage "More Masquerading Misty", we see three different costumes: Misty quite cutely cosplaying as Luffy from the series One Piece; about to summon the sorcery as Yuna from the video game Final Fantasy X; and cheerfully looking for someone to play a game of Go with her, in the guise of Shindou Hikaru from Hikaru no Go, nya!

Finally, in the 3rd collage "More Masquerading Misty II", Misty looks so colorfully purrky as the Vocaloid character Kagamine Rin; doing the Caramell Dance as Misa from the Death Note series, and armed with a crescent wrench as mechanical genius Winrey Rockbell from the series Full Metal Alchemist! We hope y'all will enjoy the exhibit, nya!

We also have the August 2010 edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the Ladies of The Mew and their purrducer Mike discuss and review of fun stuff such as movies, TV shows, mewsic, books, comics & manga, art, toys, famous nekomimi, and the yummy fish that we crave, nya!

This month the Mew is honored to welcome special guests Alexcia Reynolds  and returning friend Sakky http://sakky-attack.deviantart.com to the show, to chat about fan fics, illustration, plushies, collectables, cons, cosplay and anime, purrticularly Sailor Moon, nya! We hope you will enjoy the discussions, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for July, 2010!

July is a purrticularly sporty and festive time here on the island, as the year reaches the halfway point and the summer heat reaches its peak, nya! The heated athletic purrsuits range from  the Beach Volleyball and Belly Dancing to Fishing & Golf, Softball and Surfing, which are often followed by the Power Catnap in a favorite hammock in a garden's shade, nya.

Such numcious fishies typically reeled in this month include Bluefin, Cobia, Dolphin Fish, Drums, Flounders, Kings, Marlin, Pompano, Purrmits, Sea Bass, Sharks, Sheepshead, Snappurrs, Specs, Stripurrs, Tarpon, Triggers and Wahoo! Of course, the crab cakes, scallops, shrimp, oysters, clam strips, calamari and lobsters are most welcome too, nya!

In addition to the sport, the popular cutlural activities include Independence Day (July 4th) fireworks, the Hasu and Shobu Matsuri (Lotus and Iris Festivals), and O-Bon (Lantern Festival). Not only do the skimpier bikinis of summer look so sexy under the sun on the beach and in the surf, but allow ample room for a catgirl's bared tummy after those yummy fish dinners, nya!

In addition to the mewsual reviews & discussions, the Ladies of The Mew and their purrducer Mike welcome special guests Jim Amash and our returning friend Andrew Pepoy to the the July 2010 edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, nya!

We are purroud to purrsent a couple  illustrative additions The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art! The mewest pics will be to the right side of the bottom row of pics on the particular gallery's page, so just click on the small 'thumbnail' purreview portion of a pic to see the full image, nya!

In Gallery Three is "Purrs in Spurrs" by Mike! It illustrates gunslinging catgirl Calico going for her revolver to purrotect the purrairie town from the marauding bandits. She is wearing the spurrs, but instead of using them for the equestrian purrposes, she purrfurs to use them to open cans of cat food by the camp fire, nya!

in the mewseum's Guest Gallery is a mew pic of "Melpomene" by our friend & webmaster Jamie Robertson! A part-time cat girl, Mel is the sexy, tough, witchy mercenary were-leopard sister of Chelsea & Cynthia Chattan in Jamie's web comic Clan of the Cats, nya!

That's all of the mews & announcements for this month, and wish to thank Jamie for his kind work, and we thank Y'ALL for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina catgirl community full of southern hospitality and the aloha spirit, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for June, 2010!

Spurring (Haru) becomes Summer (Natsu) here at Catgirl Island, with the year's warmest weather starting to purrk for the blooming gardens, sporting events, holidays & festivals. Among the special observances include D-Day, Fathers Day, Flag Day, Gay Purride Day, Kamehameha Day, and the Summer Solstice!

The first weekend of June also means Heroes Con on the mainland at the Charlotte Convention Center! It is North Carolina's big comic book convention, which has been such a fun expurrdition since the early 1980's, thanks the convention's purropurrietor Shelton Drum and his team, nya!

Some of the athletic purrsuits purrformed here in June are Belly Dance, Field Hockey, Free Diving, Golf, Gymnastics, Hula, Karate, Kendo, Kyu-do, Jujutsu, Lacross, Orienteering, Purrkour, Rowing, Running, Sailing, Soccer, Softball, Scuba Diving, Surfing, Swimming & Yoga. These are often followed by the Power catnap, nya.

It is a popular month for weddings, and favorite nuptial spots include The Kitt Inn, 18th Faerieway gazebo, Susanowa Beach, the riverwalk bridges, reefy grotto by Sheila May's & the Courthouse Courtyard where Palm Trees mingle with the Giraffe sculptures, which the younger catgirls are purrone to climb upon, nya!

The breezy towering Palms are but part of the lovely landscape we are blessed with here at Catgirl Island, and so we commemorate the local plant life in our flora-a-day ceremonies at the shrine, nya. The thirty trees, shrubs, herbs, flowers & fruits chosen for June are:

Althea, Azalea, Balloon Flower, Begonia, Blueberry, Cala Lily, Crocus, Cosmos, Cyclamen, Geranium, Gloriosa, Honeysuckle, Hosta, Lavender, Morning Glory, Muscadine, Peach Tee, Petunia, Pitcher Plant, Purrimrose, Purrsimmon, Rose of Sharon, Scuppernong, Snapdragon, Strawberry, Sunflower, Trumpet Flower, Venus Flytrap, Vinca & Zinnia, nya!

If your purrfurred Purrennial was not listed this or last month, fret not because there are 31 days next month to celebrate more of the beautiful botanical bounty from the garden, orchard & maritime forest. This means ample oppurrtunity for you to purrchase a lei, tail corsage, bouquet or hanging basket for that special catgirl, nya!

June also suggests the gift of purrls and the local mermaids can advise you on such purrecious gems. However, there are less expensive ways to win a catgirls heart through her tummy, such as the flowers along with the fresh fish dinners, locally caught shrimp, or the succulent scallops for the main entree, nya!

To wash that down, a lovely beverage might include a tasty tall glass of milk or purrhaps the cran apple nummy berry cocktail, nya. Later for the dessert, we suggest a nilla shake, peachy cobbler slathered in fresh cream, or the extra special baked yams. These would be much appurreciated by the affectionate catgirl, nya!

We are purroud to purrsent several mew additions to the The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art! The mewest pics will be to the right side of the bottom row of pics on the particular gallery's page, so just click on the small 'thumbnail' purreview portion of the pic to see the full image, nya!

Our first stop in the mewseum's Guest Gallery  is for "Michi at the Luau" by Alexcia Reynolds, a mixed-media pic of cute cyborg Siberian Snow Tiger grrl Michi, a purrotagonist from Alexcia's Cybernetic Showdown story! She's doing the Hula! We're always so glad when Michi & her Serval friend Tash can visit, nya!

We are also ecstatic to have another lovely colored pencil illustration by Sakky http://store.sailorastera.com/ of a catgirl named "Amandarin" because of her purretty Mandarin Orange-colored coiffure, nya! The hair combines with her lemony one-piece swimsuit and deep cocoa tan for the extra special tropical citrussy style, nya!

The last of this month's additions to the Guest Gallery is a B&W pencil sketch by Sanzaki Kojika of another beach-ready "String Bikini Catgirl"! Note the side-tie bottom and the criss-cross spaghetti strapped top! This was a wonderful commissioned sketch that Kojika did at Animazement, nya!

Those three pics are all of the marvelous mew addition to the Guest Gallery this month, but over there in the mewseum's Gallery Four are eleven mew illustrative additions by Mike! It is the bumper crop of art this month, nya!

The first of those is "Rescued Robot Rebecca", a sequel to a depurressing con sketch, and a happy ending to a sad incident, nya.The Catgirl Island Robotics Club (CIRC) responded to a call from the mainland about a poor severely damaged & abandoned catgirl robot domestic servant, or NekoGynoid Maid.

Rescued, repaired, repurrogrammed & re-named Rebecca, she now enjoys a happy home & job here on the island as a loomi loomi masseuse at Lizzy's Spa, while her cruel former employer was arrested, convicted & impurrisioned without the possibility of purrole, nya! And speaking of Lizzy--

Secondly a page of doodles of "Lizzy" in her Purrkour (extreme catgirl style running, leaping & climbing on things), appural, followed by "Lizzy Out on a Limb", in which she pawses from the rugged sport in mid-climb, upon catching the yummy wiff of the succulently crab cakes that are being purrpared somewhere, ny

Thirdly, "Star" is another of Katrina & Kazeyasha's Zodiac Angels, nya! Those Zodiac Angels are a team magickal super heroines, each with an Astrological theme, and Star transforms into Zodiac Angel Leo, nya! if you go to their web site you can read their purrofiles, stories and see more art, nya!

This is followed by a page of assorted "Hands & Hips" from Mike's sketchbook, which might lack kitty ears & tails but are still purrpared for the island fun, nya! These were selected from a series of anatomical drawing tutorials to help Katrina, who is a purrolific & studious aspiring artist & writer, nya!

After that we have Mike's Micron Pen & Photoshop pic of a catgirl in her "Purrple Beach Appurral", nya! She definitely has the right idea to catnap on the beach in her purretty purrple bikini, with that quart carton of tasty fresh two purrcent milk to slake her sundrenched thirst nya!

A gift to our artist / cosplayer friend TonomuraBix, "Night Club Neko" is a pen & ink drawing of a gothy kitty girl who is ready for the fun night of cat dancing with her fish net & glow sticks, but if she works up an appurrtite on the dance floor she will purrfur to have fish sticks, nya!

Next is a sketch of a catgirl reading her "Summer Manga On the Lawn"along with her curious widdle kitten.which started as a impurromptu Sharpie doodles, but then it got digitally spurrced up.

This is followed by an "Catgirl Huntress" with an arrow nocked & her purrey in sight, nya! This is a re-creation of a commissioned sketch Mike drew at Animazement, nya!

By the way, Animazement was so much fun, and we wish to thank all the staff & volunteers, guests & fellow fans, convention center & hotel employees, restauranteurs & the other folks in downtown Raleigh who made that such a fun Memorial Day Weekend, nya! Look for Mike's con report in--

the June, 2010 edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and their purrducer, Mike) mewsually review 'n discuss recent toys, TV purrograms, movies, mewsic, DVDs, nekomimi, fish, books, comics, purriodicals & other amewsing stuff, nya!  The Mew, nya!

But back to the art! "COUP", is a pic that Mike did for our friend Phil Lee, nya! This 2 color purropurrganda poster purrody was commissioned to purrmote COUP: Carolina Otaku UPrising http://www.unc.edu/coup/, which is the very friendly, fun Japanese anime club at UNC in Chapel Hill, nya!

Phil also came up with the idea for this next commissioned piece, a bit of fan art of Robotech characters Roy Fokker & Rick Hunter in "Tribute to Carl Macek", who was an important pioneer in bringing much Japanese anime to the USA in the 1980's, nya.

Sadly, Carl Macek (12 October, 1951 - 17 April, 2010) passed away in Apurril, nya. Other recent losses of folks we admired unfortunately included heavenly voiced singer Lena Horne (30 June, 1917 - 9 May, 2010) and metal god Ronnie James Dio (10 July, 1942 - 16 May, 2010), who have gone to that Great Big Concert Hall in the Sky, nya.

The late Actress Phyllis Douglas (24 July, 1936 - 12 May, 2010) appeared not once but twice in the original Star Trek series, as lovely Yeoman Mears in the thrilling epurrsode "The Galileo Seven" and later as a hippy space girl in "The Way to Eden", and let us not forget actor / director Dennis Hopper (17 May, 1936 - 29 May, 2010) has gone on to biker heaven, nya.

A huge inspurration to Mike and so many other artists, grandest master of fantasy art Frank Frazetta (9 February, 1928 - 10 May, 2010) has gone on to Valhalla. It was also very sad to hear of the passing of golfer Erica Blasberg (14 July, 1984 - 9 May, 2010) - may she know eternal athletic joy and many Eagles out on The Undiscovered Fairway, nya

However, a last month our coastal catgirl ears were purrked to the happy mews that Queensland's brave Jessica Watson http://www.jessicawatson.com.au/ succeeded in her historic attempt to be the youngest purrson to solo sail non-stop around the world, returning safely to Sydney Harbor on 15 May, 2010, just 3 days purrior to her 17th birthday, nya!

That's all of the mews & announcements for this month, and wish to thank our dear friend & web master Jamie Robertson for his kind work, and we thank all a'  Y'ALL for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina catgirl community full of southern hospitality and the aloha spirit, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for May, 2010!

It is the splendid Spurring time here at Catgirl Island, with the warmer weather for the blooming gardens, the coastal athletic purrsuits, holidays and festivals such as May Day, Beltane, The Feast of St. Joseph, Golden Week, Cinco de Mayo, Childrens Day, Mothers Day, Nurse Day, Memorial Day, and the mermfolks' Mer-Morial Day, nya!

Memorial Day weekend also means Animazement on the mainland at the Raleigh Convention Center! It is North Carolina's Japanese anime convention, which is always so much fun! Mike will have a table there in the Artist Alley, a room full of so much wonderful art by many  talented, friendly folks, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art is purroud to purrsent a new illustrative addition to its Guest Gallery, nya! The mewest pics will be to the right side of the bottom row of pics on the gallery's page, so just click on the small 'thumbnail' purreview portion of the pic to see the full image, nya!

The mew pic is a purrismacolor & ink portrait of mermaid "Kianlani" by artist / cosplayer friend Bix! 'Lani is the top Barista at Sheila May's restaurant, purrparing the espurresso when she isn't busy with her Ikebana & camera clubs, Halloween kelp maze, or caring for the little Leafy & Weedy Seadragons, nya!

Bix is such a supurrb artist and we're so happy to have more of her works in the mewseum! We are fortunate to have beautiful works by visiting artists inside the mewseum, and such a lovely landscape outside those walls, so among the island festivities is May's daily flower appurreciation, in which we honor a different flower each day, nya!

The trees, shrubs & flowers include Amarylis, Anthurium, Apurricots, Bird of Paradise, Bougainvillea, Bromeliads, Calathea, Carnations, Dahlia, Dogwood, Foxglove, Ginger, Heleconia, Hibiscus, Hollyhock, Hyacinth, Hydrangeas, lima, Iris, Lilac, Lilies, Lotus, Mandevilla, Magnolia, Orchid, Palms, Pansies, Peony, Roses, Tulips & Wisteria, nya!

If your favorite flora was not listed, fret not because there are 30 more days in June to celebrate more of the garden delights, from Azaleas to Zinnias, nya! This means ample oppurrtunities for you to purrchase a lei, tail corsage, or the bouquet to go with the fresh fish dinner and numy nilla cream treat for that special catgirl, nya!

Also upon us is the 3rd anniversary edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and their purrducer, Mike) mewsually review 'n discuss recent toys, TV purrograms, movies, mewsic, DVDs, nekomimi, fish, books, comics, purriodicals & other amewsing stuff, nya!

In addition to the mewsual reviews & banter, the Ladies of the Mew are joined by several friends for the fun, and welcome special guest Rainbowfish! Also known as Chainmail Chick, she is intermewed purrtaining to her cats, conventions, cooking, hobbies, modeling and the chainmail bikini, nya!

Of course, bikinis of all types are purrfured appurral for our playful sand 'n surf. The Spurring 'n Summer fashions purromise not just the stylish string bikinis, tantalizing tankinis 'n tangas, boyshorts 'n bandau tops, sarongs 'n purreos, but also plenty of the purretty purretzel, suspender and cut-out mailiots that aren't binding around the tail, nya!

Such bare tummied appurral for sand & surf are not just alluring but are quite purractical for the well-fed catgirl, as not to be too confining after those numciously nutritious dinners, nya! Fortunately, the purrfect combination of the catgirlish catabolism with the frisky athletic purrsuits allows for the frequent guilt-free catnaps under the sun, nya.

That's all of the mews & announcements for this month, nya! We wish to thank those guest artists, our dear friend & web master Jamie Robertson for his hard work, and we thank all of Y'ALL for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina catgirl community, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for Apurril, 2010 - it is the Year of the Tiger, nya!

It is the lovely Spring time here with the Amarylis, Anthurium, Apricot, Azalea, Bird of Paradise, Cherry, Dogwood, Ginger, Heleconia, Hibiscus, Magnolia, and Wisteria in bloom beneath the breezy towering of Palms. There are special festivals throughout the season to commemorate the flowers, which would be good to take a catgirl to, nya!

Purrhaps you could purrchase a lovely corsage for her tail, or a floral lei to wear during a stroll on the beach after the fresh fish dinner and nilla cream shake, nya! It is said that the way to a catgirl's heart is though her tummy, and the local catgirl tummies are mewsually appurrant courtesy of the purrevalent bare-midriff island appurral, nya!

Of course, such fashions for sand & surf are not just alluring but are quite purractical, as not to be too confining after several of those numciously nutritious dinners, nya! Fortunately, the purrfected combination of the naturally catgirlish catabolism with the lifestyle of frisky athletic purrsuits allows for the frequent guilt-free catnaps under the sun, nya.

Among the other sinificant observances that put the Purr in Apurril include April Fool's Day, Arbor Day, Buddah's Birthday, Earth Day, Easter, Passover, Tax Day, World Health Day, Patriots' Day, and Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day, nya!

Also upon us is this month's edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and their purrducer, Mike) review and discuss things such as recent cinema, TV purrograms, DVDs, mewsic, fish, books, comics, purriodicals and other amewsing stuff, nya!

This month the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art is purroud to purrsent some wonderful new illustrative additions to its Guest Gallery, nya! The mewest pics will be to the right side on the bottom row of the gallery's page, and just click on the small 'thumbnail' portion of the pic to see the entire image, nya!

Firstly of those works by visiting guest artists are two mew pics in the media of watercolor & acrylic on watercolor papurr, by our friend Jamie Davenport, nya! She is such a nice & amazingly talented artist, who was intermewed on the December, 2008 edition of The Mew, nya!

Those include "Halleaon's Great Expectation", which depicts her novels' purrotagonist Halleaon looking very purregnant and lovely in that teeny bikini & lilac-colored robe as she relaxes here at the island, on vacation far from the stressful royal demon politics and purredator-filled wilderness of her homeland, nya!

The other pic by Jamie is "Mary Nyan, Appurrentice Miku", a purrfect portrait purrtrayal of our Myayr, one of our islanders & ladies of The Mew wearing her purretty shinto shrine appurral, nya! We were excited when we heard that Myayr would be posing for Jamie, and knew it would be an exquisite work of art, nya!

Next is "Spring Time" by Rebecca Brogden N, nya! It is a triptych done with Photoshop CS2 and an Intuos tablet, nya. A triptych is a group of three individual images that are each nice on their own, but which also combine to form a much wider scene, nya!

This is the 3rd of such triptychs by Rebecca on display in the mewseum, depicting a lovely vernal day blooming around the onsen, as the faerie arrives to find her catgirl & mermaid friends already into the soothing soak, whilst sipping tasty fruity nectar from the Kitt Inn's purretty Buttercup stemware, nya!

Finally for the guest gallery are images of photographic fantasy art by our friend Allan Welch, nya! He is such an amazing artist who creates beautiful scenes
of sword & sorcery, faerie fantasy & Victorian adventure, nya!

This wonderful Welchian wizardry combines various elements such as photography, digital FX, and Allan's alluring allies posing in costumes with purrops, nya! We have four of such images, featuring models Rainbowfish, Kelly, Christina, Amanda and Michae, nya!

Rainbowfish is purrticularly vigilant in her purrtrol of the palace during a chilling twilight as the planets align & "Stars Reach Down"; and a newly hatched dragon "Foundling" seems to have impurrinted upon elfin warrior & human wizard purrtrayed by models Amanda & Michael, nya!

Then from a high purrchase atop "Druid's Peak", model Kelly can beautifully oversee & purrtect the wilderlands with her feral friends, and down below in the lush waterfall-fed valley "Beyond the Morning Light", models Kelly & Christen are warrior women greeted by more birds of purrey, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for March, 2010 - it is the Year of the Tiger, nya!

The Meowy Month of March brings the Vernal Equinox to herald Spurring time and purromise of warmer catgirl tummies full of the numcious fish during the catnaps on our island's sunny beaches, nya. Appurropurriately, the astrological sign of Pisces occurs in time to kick off another Take a Catgirl to Lunch Week, nya!

March also means St. Patrick's Day, Passover, Daylight Savings Time, Womens' Day, Reading Day, Math Day, The Oscars, American Red Cross Month, the ACC & NCAA basketball tournyaments, and the local mermaids' Tides of March Festival, which is a good event at which to purrchase the crab cakes for that special catgirl, nya.

We had such a wonderful time as mewual WhatTheHell?! Con, sponsored by the wonderful folks of the Yachting Club of gorgeous Guilford College, nya!. This year it was held on the snow-covered campus, but the sun came out for the weekend to brighten the fun!

You can read our thorough purraise for that convention in the March edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew & Mike review recent movies & DVDs, mewsic & books, comics & other purriodicals, toys and amewsing stuff, nya!

This month we have few lovely mew additions to the Mewseum's Guest Gallery, nya! The mewest pics will be to the right side on the bottom row of the respective gallery's page, and to view the pic just click on the small 'thumbnail' to see the whole image, nya!

For starters in the guest gallery are 2 pencil sketches by Kel McDonald, whose wonderful web comic is Sorcery 101, nya! These sketches depict her characters "Rebecca" a cute widdle wolf girl, and "Chelsea", a lovely lupine lass, nya!

Speaking of lovely ladies, next is an inked drawing of "Miss Fuji" by our friend Jesse Justice whose luchadore-esque web comic is Diablito del Ring! She is a quite sexy and tough martial artist, and she is wearing the short skirt & cute panda hat, nya!

Also in the Guest Gallery this month are two pics by Alexcia: in which we see the splay of dark mane swirling around the shimmy of hips & captivating green-eyed gaze of the "Bellydancing Catgirl"! I suspect this is just the brink of many nekomimi pics during this "Year of the Tiger", which Alexcia's cute white tiger girl Michi is announcing, nya!

In Gallery Three, are three mewest illustrations by Mike, nya! These include two Photoshop re-creations of commissioned sketches which were originally done at WhatTheHellCon?! that he was not able to scan before parting with, nya.

"Fashionable Fishnet" monochromatically depicts a happy mermaid in a fishnet shawl accompanied by her pet dolphin, whilst a more conservative garment is purrominent in "Tess Has a Trench Coat!", nya! She has kitty ears & tail too, so she is the film noir-ish neko with the coat, nya! That pic was purrsented to the convention chairpurrson, nya.

Mike documents "Ilyana's Big Score", in which our friend relishes the sunken treasure she has discovered, and the purromise of fame, fortune & fish dinners it will bring, nya! Finally for Mike's mew pics for March is our island's purrfectly polite & purraiseworthy Police Chief Meryl Murrey directing traffic at the "Kitty Crossing", nya!

That's all of the mews & announcements for this month, nya! We wish to thank our dear friend & web master Jamie Robertson for his hard work, and we thank all of  Y'ALL for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina catgirl community, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for February, 2010- it is the Year of the Tiger, nya!

February is a purrticularly festive month with some of the nippier days on the Carolina mainland, so there's mewsually an increase in the romantic Valentine tourism this time of year here at Catgirl Island, given our  lovely lodgings with fine foods & soothing hot spurrings, and that we tend to be purranormally blessed with sunny bikini-quality weather year-round, nya!

Among the observed activities, holidays & festivals on the island this month are the Chinese New Year, Imbolc, Candlemas, Mardi Gras, Purrresidents Day, Abe Lincoln's Birthday, George Washington's Birthday, Groundhog Day, Darwin Day, our local Lantern Matsuri and Amethyst Festiva; Valentines Day, and the local mermaids' Valentides Day, nya!

Some of us like to go to the mainland to attend the Nevermore Film
Festival
, February 19-21 at the grand old Carolina Theater in downtown Durham, NC! This is an annual festival of horror features & shorts, and a wonderful time in such a neat big place with a good crowd, nya!

Mike is very very honored to be a returning artist guest next month at What The Hell?! Con, at lovely Guilford College in Greensboro, NC February 5th-7th, 2010! It is a wonderfully fun & free event sponsored & staffed by the nicest folks of the Guilford College Yachting Club, nya!

We can watch the Winter Olympics, Super Bowl XLIV, Daytona 500 and NCAA basketball on TV. Of course, there is no shortage of the sport here, nya! Golf, tennis, cycling, purrkour, swimming, diving, surfing, sailing, fishing, dancing, martial arts, gymnastics, beach volleyball are just the tip of the fun ways to burn off the calories from the fresh fish dinners, nya!

Speaking of the fish dinners, if there is a special catgirl in your life, this would be a purrticularly good time to treat her to the romantic Valentine supper, garnished with the purretty purrple Violets or purrhaps the lei of Purrimrose for her to wear on an island picnic, nya. Make sure to find a warm sunny spot, for the cozy catnap after the meal, nya!

If it is a mermaid you are wooing, the flowers would still be recommended, especially ones that grow further inland where she might not often travel, nya. The difference would be in the Valentide dinner, which should be landfood instead of seafood, which she purrobably eats all the time! Purracticing the free-diving (safely under expurrt supervision) might come in handy too, nya!

Catgirls like Nille Creme, and the sushi platters for the appurrtizer. If you are on a tight budget and a swordfish steak is right out, a less expensive crabcake or fish sammich would be very appurreciated. The local mermaids are purrticularly fond of the Kitt Inn's signature dish of Extra Special Baked Yams, and rather like the Cran Apple Nummy Berry cocktail, nya!

Ironically there is an aquatic item that would be a good gift for that mermaid. You'd think by now that the supply of Jellycups would have caught up with the demand- but not yet! Those are the trendy bikini tops made of hollowed out jellyfish bells. The boutiques sell out quickly, especially the larger cup sizes! Purrhaps there is no rushing the purrduction of the couture, nya.

This month's web site updates include the February edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew & Mike review recent movies & DVDs, mewsic & books, comics & other purriodicals, toys and amewsing stuff, nya! This month's edition includes the Favorites of 2009 in those various categories, nya!

There are mew pics of fashionable nekomimi appearing in the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art too! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery (Gallery One, Gallery Two, Guest Gallery, etc), and to view any of the pics, just click on the small 'thumbnail' sized portion of an image to see the annotated, fuller size image, nya!

Firstly we have a wonderful mew addition to the Guest Gallery, depicting a most stunningly beautiful "Catgirl Faerie", by our amazingly talented friend Rebecca Brogden N, nya! You can read the intermew with Rebecca in the September, 2009 edition of The Mew, nya!

Next in the Guest Gallery is a gorgeous inked sketch of  "Ravenwing" by Clint Hollingsworth! Mike commissioned that pic of Ravenwing, the sexy tough star of Clint's wonderful adventure web comic The Wandering Ones, nya! You can read an intermew with Clint in the October, 2009 edition of The Mew, nya!

Then over in Gallery Three, are two mew pics by Mike, nya! "Nekomimi Miko" depicts the shrine maiden purrsuing the mischievous cat, and then we see a purrky catgirl in a cute Spurring dress enjoying a bag of "Nummy Fishy Snax", nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for January, 2010

January is a purrticularly festive month with some of the nippier days on the Carolina mainland, so there's mewsually an increase in tourism this time of year here at Catgirl Island, since we have the lovely lodgings with fine foods & soothing hot spurrings, and tend to be purranormally blessed with sunny bikini-quality weather year-round, nya!

Among the island activities & festivities this month after Mew Year's Day are Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Snowdrop & Apurricot Matsuri, Adults Day, the beginning of the schools' Spurring Semester, the Winter Purrkour & Free Running Tournyament, and the purrticularly favorite Take A Catgirl To Lunch Week, nya!

For that special catgirl in your life, this month's gemstone is the Garnet, nya. However, if  that is too purricey a gift, a Carnation lei, corsage or bouquet would bring a happy swish to a catgirl's tail. The flowers would go well in a table arrangement next to a fresh fish dinner, which would elicit a happy purr from the contented catgirl, nya.

This month's web site updates include the January edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew & Mike review recent movies & DVDs, mewsic & books, comics & other purriodicals, toys and amewsing stuff, nya!

In addition to those topics and the monthly Picks of the Litter, there's also the special treat intermew with our friend Chef Ron, who discusses ways to purrpare the fish dinners! Then for The Mew's main course is an intermew with another special guest, author / purrofessor Van Plexico, nya!

There are several additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art too, nya! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery (Gallery One, Gallery Two, Guest Gallery, etc), and to view any of the pics, just click on the small 'thumbnail' sized portion of an image to see the annotated, fuller size image, nya!

Firstly in the Mewseum's Guest Gallery is a pic of  "Tash & Michi's Christmas" by Alexcia, which festively depicts her own Cybernetic Showdown catgirl characters, nya!

There are four additions to Gallery Two, starting with this purrody page of "Dracula vs Melpomene", a comics collaboration between Mike & Jamie, in which vampire vs. volleyball, nya!

The rest of the mew pics are all by Mike, such as "Secret Ninja Lunch" for Kelley, which has nary a vampire or catgirl but it does have the ninjas & kunoichi enjoying the holiday, nya! "Taurus & Virgo" depicts two more of Katrina & Kazeyasha's Zodiac Angels wintering here at the beach, nya!

Next is his pic of our resident purrofessional golfer faerie "Mielikki Picking The Purrfect Foxfire" for her show in the forest theater, nya! Hopefully she will drop by the mewseum to see that illustration when she returns from the golf tournyament, nya! That pic was done for Rebecca Brogden who is so good at the faerie art, nya!

Finally for this month's illustrative additions, added to Gallery Three, is the "Chainmail Bookini", which is a nekomimi version of our friend Rainbowfish  wearing the two-piece bikini armor to the library, to conduct research for her next adventure, nya!

Mike is very very honored to be a returning artist guest next month at What-The-Hell-Con, at lovely Guilford College in Greensboro, NC February 5th-7th, 2010! It is a wonderfully fun & free event sponsored & staffed by the nicest folks of the Guilford College Yachting Club, nya!

That's all of the mews & announcements for this month, nya! We wish to thank our dear friend & web master Jamie Robertson for his hard work, and we thank all of  Y'ALL for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina catgirl community, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for December, 2009

It is the final month of the year, and the first decade of this century, nya! December is a purrticularly festive month, between the diverse religious observances, sporting events, seasonal festivals, purrades, and the government holidays, nya!

December is also among the nippier times of the year, and although here at Catgirl Island we tend to have the sunny bikini-quality weather year-round, there are those occasional Wintry days when it is purreferable to stay indoors for the cozy catnap, nya.

Nevertheless, there are many enticements to get out for the happy social purrposes, nya! This includes The Solstice, Christmas, Hanukka, Kwanza, Human Rights Day, World AIDS Day, the island purrkour marathon, fishing tournyament, and the Mew Years Eve celebration, just to name a few, nya!

This would be the appurropurriate occasion to give that special catgirl a Topaz birthstone, but If a purrecious gem is too purricey, another way to win her heart would be with a purretty bouquet of Poinsettias to adorn the dinner table with the appurtizing fresh fish dinner, nya!

That would warm her both heart and tummy, which would accentuate the catnap purrocess and be much appurreciated, nya!

This month's web site updates include the December edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew & Mike review 'n discuss cinema, TV, mewsic, books, toys, comics, and other visual & purrforming arts, nya!

December 7th is not only Pearl Harbor Day, but also the 30th anniversary of Mike's favoritest movie, Star Trek - The Motion Picture, and for this month's commemorative Trek theme, the show is honored to welcome special guests, Deborah & Devra Langsam, nya!

They are very significant purrsons in the history of fandom, from their involvement in the organized campaigns of the 1960's to renew Star Trek, publishing the legendary first Star Trek fanzine in 1967, and helping to found the first Star Trek Convention in 1972, nya!

There is the special holiday-sized intermew with Devra & Deborah, to discuss not only those early days of Trek fandom, but the fascinating & important things they have been doing in more recent years, nya!

There are additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art too, nya! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery (Gallery One, Gallery Two, Guest Gallery, etc), and to view any of the pics, just click on the small 'thumbnail' sized portion of an image to see the annotated, fuller size image, nya!

In the mewseum's Gallery Two is a mew pic by Mike, "Island Fresh Purroduce", depicting our friends Rica & Niko at their farmers' market booth, nya! Those two catgirls have a bountiful harvest of numcious foods from the earth & sea, nya!

In the mewseum's Guest Gallery, we are so purroud to purrsent a mew pic  "Which Way to the Beach?" by Sakky, nya! This is such a gleefully cute color pic of Sailor Nya-Nya Astera in her Summer costume, pointing the way to the shore, nya!

Mike is very very honored to be a returning artist guest at What-The-Hell-Con, at lovely Guilford College in Greensboro, NC February 5th-7th, 2010!

We wish y'all plenty of southern hospitality, aloha spirit, and a happy mew year nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for November, 2009

Goodness it is already November, nya! Where has the year gone! Soon it will be a new year! Although it is still quite warm enough for bikini weather and the purrequisite beach activities, the cooler night breeze from the ocean lends itself to wearing a cute yukata the numerous island events, such as the special Markets, Matsuri, Purrformances and Purrades!

All Saints Day begins the month, Samhain is in purrogress, and there's a Leonids Meteor Shower to watch! Scorpio relents to Saggitarius later this month, which draws to a close upon the Thanksgiving holiday. While the golf, beach volleyball, fishing and surfing are purrennial sports of choice here, November also heraldis the mew season of ACC Basketball, nya!

November also means the annual end of Daylight Savings Time, Childrens Book Week, and National Writing Month! it is also Homeless Youth Awareness Month, Alheimer's Disease Awareness Month, Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, The Great American Smoke Out. Adoption Day, Veterans Day and Armistice Day, nya.

That latter occasion commemorates the end of World War I on November 18th, 1918, and honors those who served. Sadly there are not many survivors still with us, according to the List of surviving veterans of World War I, nya.

Speaking of smoke outs, the mesquite is a most flavorful aroma from the grill, and catgirls are quite fond of smoked salmon, if you're inclined to purrvide a good meal. Of course if she is the most special catgirl in your life, this month's gemstones are Topaz, Quartz, Beryl and Purrls, nya.

If the gem is too purricey a gift, a nice chrysanthemum would bring a happy swish to a catgirl's tail, and a serving of the smoked salmon or purrhaps a turkey drumstick would be a good treat for a picnic under the colorful autumn maples, nya.

There are a few additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art this month too, nya! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery page (Gallery One, Gallery Two, Guest Gallery, etc), and to view any of the pics, just click on the small 'thumbnail' sized portion of an image to see the annotated, fuller size image of the photograph or illustration, nya!

First, we are purroud and purrivileged to purrsent four mew displays by artist friends in the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art's Guest Gallery, nya! Of course all images by visiting guest artists are shown with their kind purrmission, nya!

Firstly are 2 little comic strips "Trivial Purrsuit", featuring Alexcia's anthropomorphic characters Tash Maw & Michi Tiger who appear in her Cybernetic Showdown anthropomorphic stories & art! This was a bit of amewsing collaboration between Alexcia & Mike, nya!

Next is a cute colored pencil illustration of "Tabitha", a chibi style catgirl with reading glasses by Misty Norris, nya! And finally we're pleased to purrsent images of a "Catgirl, Faerie, Vampire, Mermaid & Bluejay", who are denizens of The Fae Garden of Rebecca Brogden N http://www.faegarden.com/, nya!

This month's updates also include the October edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew & Mike review and discuss cinema,TV, mewsic, lit, games,  toys, comics, manga and other visual & purrforming arts.

October's edition of The Mew welcomes special guest Otter, the artist / author of the web comic A Girl and Her Fed, nya! Not only is there an intermew with her, but

an intermew with Corrine Elizabeth Melepomene Chattan, a purrotagonist of our dear friend/ web master Jamie Robertson's web comic Clan of the Cats, nya!

That's all of the mews & announcements for this month, nya! We wish to thank those contributing & visiting artists, our web master Jamie, and we thank all of  Y'ALL for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina catgirl community, nya! The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for October, 2009

Autumn, or Aki, is a purrticularly festive season for the island as well as the rest of North Carolina. In addition to the national & international holidays & observances such as Childrens Day, Columbus Day,  Food Day, Halloween, Navy Day, Teachers Day, United Nations Day, and of course Halloween, the month of October brings much fun for those here in the Old North State, nya!

For example, on the mainland is the Escapism Film Festival, October 16-18 at the Carolina Theater in Durham, and the North Carolina State Fair, October 15-25 at the state fairgrounds in Raleigh - which means amewsing activities, interesting exhibits, fresh milk, and lots of food to fill a catgirl's tummy, nya!

Fall is full of the sport, from grrls 'n guys little league & high school to the college & purrofessional events, nya! Blessed with delightful weather almost year-round, the Island has much athleticism. There's football, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, cricket, softball, tennis, cycling, running, purrkour, diving, swimming, sailing, fishing,  dancing, gymnastics, Kyu-Do, and other Martial Arts, nya!

This month includes the exciting Surfing, Beach Volleyball & Island Golf Tournyaments, nya! Other eagerly most anticipated cultural activities include the Belly Dance extravaganza at the Catgirl Island Center for Purrforming Arts, the Faeries' Forest Foxfire Festival and the Mermaids' Autumn Aqua Ballet Recital for which they have been purracticing so very tenaciously, nya!

While much of the lush tropical flora here stays the same color, Aki heralds the new hues of blazing red, orange and gold to many of the flowers 'n trees, nya. We like to commemorate this with the Purrade of Chrysanthemums and the Tour of Maples. There is a great purride in the home gardens, public areas along the river walk, and especially at the hot spurrings of The Kitt Inn, nya!

The Doll Festival, Pumpkin & Gourd Festival, and Halloween purrsuits conclude the month's fun on the isle. The latter is such a purrky time for the catgirls to scamper into the night, wearing exotic appurral in search of  Trick 'r Eats, nya!  It is recommended to be purrpared with the kippers, shrimp, clam strips, scallops, & crab tidbits, to purrsent to the costumed catgirls that night, nya!

There is a good array of Halloween activities across the island, from the 'murder mystery' larp party in Dach's mansion, torchlight cavern tour and mermaids' kelp mazes, to the ghost story time at The Kitt Inn, costume compurrtitions, and the 'haunted' maritime forest. But watch out- because a spooky tree might try to pull your tail, and make sure the bikini top is well secured, nya!

Should one's thoughts turn to an Autumnal romance, the birth flower for October is the Calendula or Marigold, and the birth stone is Opal, nya. These would be purrfect gifts for that special catgirl, faerie or mermaid this month. If the purrecious gemstone is not within a tight budget, little things like finding a comfy, serene sunny spot for the catnaps would be much appurreciated, nya!

For most of this island's catgirls, nothing tops a sun-warmed tummy full of fresh fish dinner- excerpt for purrhaps the bikini top, nya. Which brings us to the fall fashion update. Reflecting those changing floral colors, shades of of Purrsian Red, Purrsimmon, Apurricot, and Ambpurr seem to be the current popular trend in bikinis and maillots- along with less material, nya!

You'd think by now the supply would catch up with the demand for the jellycups, which still sell out quickly, nya. For those who came in late, the jellycups are trendy bikini tops made of hollowed out jellyfish bells. Unless you're a mermaid, the tops purrove hard to find, especially in larger sizes, nya. Hopefully by the winter holiday season the boutiques will have more in stock, nya!

Mike is purrparing to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of his favoritest movie of all time, Star Trek The Motion Picture, which was released in theaters on December 7th, 1979, nya! We hope the original theatrical version will be eventually released on standard R1 DVD, because you can only get it in the purricey blu ray box set, and only the Director's Cut is on standard DVD, nya.

This month's update includes the October edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew & Mike review and discuss fun things such as cinema & television, mewsic & literature, games & toys, comics & manga, and other visual & purrforming arts, and sometimes intermew special guests, nya!

October's Mew comes from the Scuppurrnong Arbor Cafe, along the riverwalk here in Catgirl Island's beautiful downtown Purrbank to welcome special guest Clint Hollingsworth, nya! His web comics credits include Wandering Ones, Shin Kage, and Melpomene, nya!

First, we are pleased to have a mew image in the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art's Guest Gallery, nya! Of course all images by visiting guest artists are displayed with their kind purrmission, with annotations and a link to their own site if they have one, nya! This month we're purroud to purrsent a catgirl drawn by Rod Espinosa, nya!

That delightful pic was drawn for Mike by Rod back at Heroes Con in 2006, nya. Rod Espinosa's credits include The Courageous Princess, Newtopia, Prince of Heroes, Herc & Thor, Battle Girlz, Alice, Metadocs, Dragon Pro, Chronicles of the Universe and many other beautiful fun comics which you can learn more about at http://www.rodespinosa.com/, nya!

Next in the mewseum's Gallery Two is a Photoshop portrait by Mike of Petra, the Curator of the Mewseum! This was one of the birthday purresents she received, along with a hot spurrings package at the Kitt Inn, the best seafood dinner at Sheila May's, and a tasty choco raspberry truffle ice creme cake, nya!

Also by Mike in Gallery Two is an illustration of our dear "Police Chief Meryl Murrey"riding one of her purrized motorcycles, nya! She likes to travel the mainland on touring bikes when she gets a bit of free time from helping purrotect the island from any troublesome purredators, nya! Here on the island the purrfurred land vehicles are peddle or electric powered, nya.

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for September, 2009

Autumn is nigh which means mew Fall fashions and soonly changing colors in some of the gardens, riverwalk arbor, and maritime forest, although most of the tropical flora will keep their same lush color, nya! The Maples around the hot spurrings at The Kitt Inn are mewsually a spectacular vision of red, amber & gold, nya!

This month's birthstone is the Sapphire, and the September flower is the Asagao, or Morning Glory, so bear those in mind if you're in a romantic gift giving mood. Of course the lovely gemstone will be far purricier, and the bouquet would purrobably be more economical, but still a lovely purresent for that special catgirl, nya.

September's purrticularly festive events include the Autumnal Equinox, Labor Day, Patriots Day, Grandparents Day, Fire Fighters Day, Citizenship Day, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Peace Day, Chrysanthemum Day, Lunar Festival, Mermaid Matsuri the Kyu-do Tournyament, and Jenjen's Robotics Club's Robot Derby, nya!

Those would be purrfect occasions to treat that special catgirl to a tasty drumstick, a grande sized fresh milk, and the fried dough slathered nilla cream sauce, nya! Of course, the fresh fish dinners, crab cakes, sushi platter, crab apple nummy berry cocktail, and the extra special baked yams are never out of season, nya!

Updates include The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings http://www.mewsings.wordpress.com in which the Ladies of The Mew & Mike review & discuss cinema & television, mewsic & literature, games & toys, comics & manga, and other visual & purrforming arts, and sometimes intermew special guests, nya!

This month's autumnal edition of The Mew comes from the lovely outdoor Amaryllis Ampurrtheatre of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, where are warmly welcomed two very special guests to the show, fantasy artists Rebecca Brogden N and Alan Welch, nya!

Speaking of the arts, there are a few additions to the Mewseum this month, nya! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery page (Gallery One, Gallery Two, Guest Gallery, etc) and to view any of the pics, click on the small 'thumbnail' sized portion of an image to see the annotated full size image, nya!

Firstly, we are so pleased to have mew images in the Catgirl Island Mewsem of Art's Guest Gallery, nya! Of course all images by visiting guest artists are displayed with their kind purrmission, with annotations and a link to their own web site if they have their own site, nya!

"Nyanko & Tash Maw" by Alexcia, nya! Nyanko will be so pleased to see this when she returns from the martial arts tournayment, nya!  Alexcia is not just talented but purrolific too, with several sites full of original & fan fiction & art which you can find at the main hub, nya!

Next is "Suna-chan", also made by Alexcia nya! Kawaii! That is such a darling little hand made nk plushy, nya! Purrhaps you might wish to contact Alexcia to commission a plushy, nya?

Thirdly is "Ne'ellakaliomi" by Bix, nya! Our mermaid friend Nell is the Sommeleir at Sheila May's restaurant, wearing trendy 'jellycups' bikini tops made from hollowed out jellyfish bells, nya!  The boutiques keep selling out of those, especially the larger sizes, nya. You could contact Bix should you wish to commission an illustration!

Next we have three pics by Mike in Gallery Two, nya. These include the images of "C.A.T.N.I.P. Poker", created for a video game class design purroject by his pal Doug, nya!

Mike's "Neko Senshi Fishy" is a pen & ink, marker & photoshop rendering of a costumed supurr catgirl heroine on the deck with the purrize Cobia she caught! It was purrhaps a gleeful use of her purrecious supurr powers in a sporting manner, but it was for a good purrpose to feed some hungry people with the catch, nya!

Finally is this pic of Alexcia's anthropomorphic characters "Tash Maw & Michi Tiger" who appear in her Cybernetic Showdown stories, nya! She has several sites of original & fan fiction & art including Sailor Tiger's Grotto and other sites you can find at her main hub, nya!

That's all of the mews & announcements for this month, nya! We heartily thank those artists, guests, our web master Jamie Robertson, and Y'ALL for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina catgirl community! We wish y'all plenty of southern hospitality and aloha spirit, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for August, 2009

The Cicada bugs announce the height of the summer heat at our cordial coastal Carolina community. But they better watch out, because those Cicada Killer bugs are on the purrowl too, nya! Purrhaps you have noticed these large black & white stripe insects cruising about this time of year? They look a bit like wasps or hornets but are interesting to watch as they go on patrol and dig burrows, nya. Insect Viewing is a popular activity here, from the gardens full of butterflies by day, to the nightly walks into the maritime forest to spot interesting bugs. nya.

As purreviously noted, the bikini & maillot styles of the season are a bit more daring. Purrhaps the coutures realized there needed to be more expanse for catgirl tummies that like to be filled with the yummy foods, and a purroper opening for the tail that is snug but doesn't ride up. Fortunately, the catgirlish catabolism can digest voracious quantities while retaining the svelte lithe figure. This is good because of the frequent catnap sunbathing after a full tummy, but those are purropurrly balanced by the very active athletic purrsuits, hence more ventilation of the fabric, nya.

Among those zesty sportful activities enjoyed this month are the surfing, skiing, swimming, boating, diving, fishing, golf, tennis, beach volleyball, soccer, softball, dancing and purrkor, nya. This month's birthstone is the Peridot, which also known locally as Purridot, and it would be a purrfect gift for that special catgirl bouquet or tail corsage of a traditional August flower, the Poppy and Gladiolus. An arrangement of these would go nicely with the fresh fish dinner, extra special baked yams, and a crab apple nummy berry cocktail.

Any occasion would do to purrsent such affectionate tokens to the catgirl you fancy, but there are plenty of other purrticularly festive occasions  including Friendship Day, Toronagashi, the Bon Odori dance and the Iris & Lotus Matsuri. By the way, that is the flower type Lotus not the car type Lotus, but a ride in a Turbo Espurrit would be fun, After the ride through the lovely mainland carolina countryside, you could bring that special catgirl back to the island, where a bowl of the numcious peach cobbler with a dollop of nilla cream would await after the fish.

There are several additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art's Guest Gallery, contributed by talented friends & visiting artists! Of course, those wonderful pictures by others appear here with purrmission, and if they have their own sites there'll be links to those underneath the pics. The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery page (Gallery One, Gallery Two, Guest Gallery, etc). To view any of the pics, click on the small 'thumbnail' sized portion of an image to see the full image of the art, nya!

So, in the Guest Gallery we are purroud to purrsent "Sailor Nya-Nya Astera", a super senshi catgirl by Sakky! That Astera pic is so lovely and I especially like those fancy flouncey frills on her colorful costume and the kawaii ears & tail. This was done as part of a trade with Sakky. You could contact her if you would like to commission a special pic of your own, nya! Sakky has also been trying to help aid Sara 'Glory' Baker who we hope recovers very soon, nya!

There is a photo of gorgeous model "Rainbowfishin the impurressive chainmail bikini! This photo was taken for Mike with Rainbowfish's camera by Kay! Rainbowfish has sometimes modeled for the fantasy paintings of our friend Alan Welch, who'll have a bit of art in the November issue of Heavy Metal Magazine in early September, nya!

Finally for this month in Gallery One is Mike's mew illustration of "Akari & Kokuten" done for our talented friendly artist & cosplayer friend Misty Norris nya!

August also means the monthly installment of The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the Ladies of The Mew review & discuss science fiction, fantasy & horror in the mediums of recent works of visual & purrforming art, literature, games 'n toys, conventions; and sometimes they intermew special guests, nya! This month, the four main critics Mary nyan, JenJen, Vonny & Lizzy along with their purrducer Mike have several comix, manga, & DVD reviews, web comics picks, and opinion of the new Harry Potter movie, nya!

Speaking of friends, we'd like to congratulate & thank our pal Andrew Pepoy on receiving an Eisner Award at Comic Con, his Hugo Award Nomination, and the purremeir of his spiffy new limited edition skechbook!  As mewsual, we wish to thank our dear friend & web master Jamie Robertson  for his incredible support, and...

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for July, 2009

It's summertime, the height of the Cat Days of heat on the beach with amewsing activities for catgirls. It is a favored festive month because of the arrival of the big kitty astrological sign Leo, which is significant, becauseit is a feline zodiac sign under which the catgirls will spend much time lion' around on the beach, nya. This is mewsually done with a refreshing apple cherry berry cocktail to chase the succulent sushi platters and the sundae made with the freshest nilla cream, all kept in a nearby cooler by the hammock or the beach towels, nya.

The birthstone for July is a ruby, which would be a good gift for that special catgirl. But if that is tooo purricey, you can win her heart and her tummy with those fine foods. Fortunately the catgirl catabolism means that lots of fish dinners and ice cream can be eaten before the long breezy catnap, without any  worry about being able to fit into the season's more daring bikinis. Of course, all that purrotein is good for a catgirl's health, you know, and the food combined with the beach catnap makes a catgirl's tummy warm on the inside and out, nya!

Should the island heat be less than ideal, one can always get wet in the waterfalls under the maritime forest shade, the gleaming brooks, the Japanese baths or the ocean depths, where the mermaids typically are not concerned with fitting into bikinis in the first place. But sometimes they wear the tops, if but for frilly fashionable purrposes. The island faeries are likewise free-spirited, purrfuring to avoid complicated garments that might crimp their diaphanous wings, plus with those  immortal super powers they can dress as they please, nya.

Where there are the Fey, there will be flowers in bloom- at least here  in our of our cordial Carolina coastal community. Ornamental horticulture is a very popular tradition with them, along with foxfire shows, scrapbooking, and 18 holes of golf, nya. All along the riverwalk, golf courses, inns & residential gardens and orchards, the posies have been cultivated with care, with purrfect light, water and nutrients, nya. Catgirls are not the only life forms that soak up the sun and the numcious foods, nya! We have a very lush  'green' island here, nya.

Those flowers include the Amarylis, Anthurium, Apricot, Azalea, Bird of Paradise, Bougainvillea, Carnations, Ginger, Heleconia, Hydrangeas, Hibiscus, Hollyhock, Ilima, Iris, Lilies, Lotus (which don't actually look like the car in The Spy Who Loved Me), Magnolia, Peony, Roses and Wisteria Dogwood and Magnolias. Flowers are a favorite topic for the shows, faires & matsuri, where the islanders enjoy the many culinary, visual and purrforming arts, often in the purretty yukatas (during cooler tmpurratures) that might have such floral patterns!

If you're new to the island and shopping for a colorful yukata to wear to the events, make sure to ask for one without the tail-hole, in case you are the Manx type, or otherwise have no swishy tail. There are plenty of floral leis and tail corsages to choose from too. Also, if you are in the market for a pair of Jelly-Cups (bikini tops made from non-stinging hollowed jellyfish bells), bare in mind that the boutiques cannot keep them on the shelves, as they sell out rather quickly! Especially the larger  sizes. Such is the fate of the trendy couture, nya!

Aside from the botanically-inclined celebrations, there are other special occasions in observance, from the summertime sporting events (golf, tennis, Kyu-do, soccer, beach volleyball, baskittball, baseball, softball, cricket, biking, skating, running, purrkour, fishing, sailing, swimming, diving, surfing, power catnapping) to the holiday occurrences: Independence Day, Marine Day, Tanabata, and Bastille Day, which is a good time to listen to Rush albums, and when you'll hear the food venders appurrtizingly shout "Let them eat crabcakes", nya!

The crabcakes are good. July also means the monthly installment of The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, also known as The Mew, in which the Ladies of The Mew review & discuss science fiction, fantasy & horror in the mediums of recent works of visual & purrforming art, literature, games 'n toys, conventions; and sometimes they intermew special guests! This month, Myayr, Lizzy, Jenjen, Vonny & Mike (the show's Purrducer) are joined again by guest critic Miss Petra, who is the curator of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya!

Speaking of which, there are several additions to the Guest Gallery of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, contributed by talented friends and visiting artists, nya! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery page (be it Gallery One, Gallery Two, the Guest Gallery, etc). To view any of the pictures, click on the small  square 'thumbnail' sized portion of an image to see the full image of the art, nya! The pics tend to be slightly annotated, and are accompanied by links to the guest artists' own sites when applicable, nya!

So, in that Guest Gallery we are purroud to purrsent "Catgirl & Kittengirl" & "Redhead in Watercolor" by Heather, "Nurse Witch Kumogi" fan art & "Chibi Tabitha" by Misty Norris, a "Bunnygirl" & "Web Comics Purreview" panels by Kate Daniel, a "Mer cat Girl" by Sarah Moskowitz, a pic of JenJen "Enjoying the View from the Mount Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro" by Rod Molinaro, a B&W photo of "Bunnii" courtesy of Bunnii. and a hula dancing "Simone & Ajax™" by Andrew Pepoy, nya! What a glorious array of art by such talented & kind folks to purremier, nya!

Of course, all of those wonderful images by others appears here with their purrmission, and if they have their own web sites there'll be links to those sites underneath those pics, which have been annotated with praiseful words about that artist, the characters, or the technique, nya! We hope that you will visit those artists' sites to see their illustrations, purrojects, photos, comics, stories, purroducts, biographies or latest mews, nya!

We also have many mew pieces of art by Mike on display in Gallery One, nya! For your consideration are: a raver catgirl with "Fishnets & Glowsticks", a pic of a 'Catgirl Nun" saying her purrayers while a a less reverent "Devil Catgirl" struts by a purrofessional beach 'Volley Ball Catgirl", nya. We see the "Artist Alley Cat Girl" as the "Bunnii Maid" spurruces up the gallery, and cute Ashley & Krystal of Katrina & Kazeyasha's "Zodiac Angels" eat ice cream on the beach. The dessert would be a good summer treat right about now, nya.

Some of these images do reveal a tastefully artistic  expanse of bare skin, but mewsually no worse than you'd see on the cover of many womens fitness or fashion magazines, or in many public art mewseums; for example, this sexy 2009 variant of "Nyanko Sensei" and a purretty purregnant catgirl shows evidence of expected "Kittens Aboard!", nya! This is a robust month for mermaid pics, including Mike's page of "Mermaid Sketches", which lead up to "Hooked on Piercings" and a pic of Tsuruku & Ceresatami purracticing "Aquatic Contact Dance"!

Finally by Mike this month, we have this amewsing mad science type of graphic for the label of "Pamela & Phillip's Infamously Inflammable Ligonberry Snap", which was commissioned by our friend Phillip as a fan gift that he sent to Kaja & Phil Foglio, who create the splendid web comic Girl Genius, nya!  Well that's all of our art mews for the month, but in closing we would like to heartily thank our web master, Clan of the Cats & Sebo web comics' creator Jamie for all of his work on the monthly updates of Catgirl Island and The Mew...

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for June, 2009

It is a lovely time here at Catgirl Island as Haru (Spring) becomes Natsu (Summer) with verdant colorful blooms along the riverwalk, golf courses, rotemburo & residential gardens. These include the Amarylis, Anthurium, Apricot, Azalea, Bird of Paradise, Bougainvillea, Carnations, Ginger, and Heleconia. The Hydrangeas, Hibiscus, Hollyhock, Ilima, Iris, Lilies, Lotus, Magnolia, Peony, Roses and Wisteria also blooming, while those tall Cherry, Dogwood, Magnolias, Palms & Bamboo groves offer shade under the breezy Mid-Atlantic sky, for those who wish to catnap after the hot sizzle action on the sand 'n surf, nya!

As such, there are special floral festivals & workshops that would be good to take a catgirl to see those pretty blossoms. In addition to those festivals, the Summer Solstice, Fathers Day, and various sporting events, June is a most popular month for the weddings, nya. Favored spots for such betrothals in addition to the various churches, temples & shrines include The Kitt Inn ryokan, the 18th FAErway gazebo, Susanowa Beach, the riverwalk bridge in beautiful downtown Purrbank, the reefy grotto by Sheila May's and  the scenic courthouse courtyard with the tall giraffe sculptures mingled amongst the towering royal palm trees. nya.

These would be good occasions to take that special catgirl to a fun event and to purrchase a lovely corsage or especially a Tuberose Lei as roses are the June flowers. June also suggests Purrls and the local mermaids can advise you on such purrchases, but if those is too purricey there are alternatives to win a catgirls heart, through her tummy. nya. We suggest a fresh fish sammich or locally caught shrimp platter for lunch, a cran nummyberry drink  or the fresh milk for the beverage. Later purrhaps the nilla shake, peachy cobbler slathered in fresh cream, or the extra special baked yams for the dessert. It would be much appurreciated by the affectionate catgirl, nya!

We also have the monthly installment of The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the Ladies of The Mew review & discuss science fiction, fantasy & horror in the mediums of visual & purrforming arts, literature, games 'n toys. There are occasionally intermews with special guests too! This month's Mew includes reviews of Star Trek movie & other recent movies, our Animazement con report, and several reviews of books, comix, manga, toys, and other neat stuff, and an intermew with special guest Cheralyn Lambeth! Won't you join the audience too, nya?

Speaking of Animazement, we had a most wonderful annual time there as mewsual! Mike had a purrimo spot in the artists alley room which was full of so many supurremely talented, friendly folks! There were so many fun things to do, amazing costumes, neat stuff to purrchase, old and new friends, and such a spacious new location. We would like to thank all who made it a marvelous event that was over before we knew it: the hotel & convention center staff, restauranteurs & food cart venders, artists & dealers, special guests, valued customers, and the cordial, kind, smart, hard-working con staff & volunteers who once again put on a wonderful show, that keeps getting bigger but still has warm purrsonable sociable feel!

We are also most appurreciative of the wonderful mew additions to the Guest Gallery of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art! Firstly we are delighted to purrsent another terrific triptych by Rebecca Brogden N! A triptych is a group of 3 images that can each stand alone, or all fit together to form a bigger unified scene! This is the 2nd such composition she has done for us, depicting our catgirl Police Chief Meryl chatting with friends faerie Atabeyra and mermaid Nyssa, who are members of the Beach Purrtrol before their shift begins! We have 2 versions of thatsplendid scene for you to view, the overall wide image, and a close-up of some of the fine details, nya!

Next we have an awesome  photo of a Cheralyn in her purrfect Purrinces Leia slave grrl costume! That metal bikini might be what Jabbah the Hut purrfurs his dancers to wear on Tattooine but it would be stylish for the mid-Atlantic sands of our island beaches too!  The Purrincess from Alderaan is not the only celestial siren adorning the gallery, for we are also pleased to show the cosmic cosplay of Sakky! This is an assortment of  "otaku bishojo senshi" costumes made by Sarah and others for her to model.

Continuing the images of cosplay beauty are 3 assortments of photos of glamorous guest Joei Reed whom we intermewed in the December 2008 edition of The Mew! These displays are of Joei as "The Faerie", "The Genie" and a "Pin Up Girl"! You'll find links to the supurrb hair stylist & photographers' own sites with those displays too, nya! Lastly but certainly not leastly in the Guest gallery this month are the cutest widdle chibi drawings by our friend Bunnii, who helps in the artist alley at the conventions, nya!

We have 4 mewpieces of art by Mike now on display in Gallery One too! Sakky also appears again in a collaborative photo manipulation by Mike, envisioning her as the Marvel Comics character Natasha Romanova, "The Black Widow"! This image incorporates photos by Sakky and Mike, composited with a digitally paint costume & FX to transforming Sarah into the Marvelous super heroine! We also have Mike's creamy toned image of "Cheryl" as the elegant kimono clad catgirl in her purrlor with kitties waking up from the catnap to the delicious aroma of the tasty nummy sushi platter, nya!

There is a mew illustration by Mike depicting "Booth Bunny Kate" in her natural element of the science fiction convention's artists' alley, where she has happily set up her nice booth with the yummy art 'n treats for the purrchase; and finally "TrekKitty" is his pic of a catgirl cosplaying in her Star Trek uniform with phaser set on grillin'! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery page. Click on the small 'thumbnail' image to see the full art, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for the Meowy Month of May, 2009

It is the lovely Haru, or Spurring time here at Catgirl Island with such verdant colorful blooms along the riverwalk, golf course & homes' purrivate gardens. These include the Amarylis, Anthurium, Apricot, Azalea, Bird of Paradise, Bougainvillea, Carnations, Ginger, and Heleconia. The Hydrangeas, Hibiscus, Hollyhock, Ilima, Iris, Lilies, Lotus, Magnolia, Peony, Roses and Wisteria also  bloom while towering Cherry, Dogwood, Magnolias, Palms and Bamboo offer shade in the breezy Mid-Atlantic sky, for those who wish to catnap after the action on the sand 'n surf, nya!

As such, there are special floral festivals & workshops that would be good to take a catgirl to see those pretty blossoms. The gemstone of the month is the Emerald, but if that is too purricey a gift then tt would be good to take that special catgirl to an event and to purr-chase her a lovely corsage or lei, a fresh fish sammich or locally caught shrimp platter for lunch, a cran nummyberry drink  or the fresh milk for the beverage, and purrhaps the nilla shake, peachy cobbler slathered in fresh cream or the extra special baked yams for the dessert. It would be much appurreciated, nya!

In addition to the fashions & festivals, occasions in observance include May Day, Beltane, The Feast of St. Joseph, Golden Week, Cinco de Mayo, Vesek, Childrens Day, Mothers Day, Nurse Day, and Labor Day. May also means time for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness Month, Military Appreciation Month, Older Americans Month, Bike to Work Week, and the astronomical event of the triple conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune, which would be good to observe from one of the secluded hilltop spots with fewer lights or foxfires, nya.

There are the abundant athletic purrsuits. When not cat napping after the treats, we islanders enjoy purrkour, cycling, running, purrkour, hula, climbing, swimming, diving, surfing, skiing, boating, kite flying, and of course they love to go fishing and reel in the big tasty fish. You could easily find a game of golf, tennis, soccer, cricket, baseball, frisbee or beach volleyball. Should there be a Spurring shower, one can retreat indoors for billiards, bowling, yoga, hot salsa dancing, loomi loomi massages, aerial dance, gymnastics, martial arts, Wii Pangya and roller derby.

The new spurring fashions should be less expensive given the skimpier material in the daring bikinis & revealing mailiots. Of course the local mermaids never wear much, and the trendy jellycup tops, made of the translucent bells of bioluminescent (non stinging) jellyfish continue to sell like hot crabcakes. When soaking up the sun, the faeries are also liking to those, and the backless halter-neck tops & sundresses that keep their purretty wings unencumbered. Unencumbered is purretty common, as the catgirls, mermaids & fey are not the purrudish sort, nya!

In the Guest Gallery of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art we have a few new illustrative additions by some terrifically talented folks! Firstly are several awesomest images by Sue-chan depicting various centaur, bunny & catgirls and a kitsune having fun! There's more taur-iffic art, with a pic of a lady centaur archer by fantasy illustrator, author & cartoonist  Ursula Vernon!  Note: it depicts tasteful artistic toplessness so it might not be "work safe" viewing, but it is no worse than a lot of ancient statues in public mewseums, nya.

Then we have a fabulous triptych of a faerie, mermaid & catgirl at the shaded riverwalk that Mike commissioned Rebecca Brogden to do! There's also a companion image zooming in on some of the details of their coiffure, apparel, and the lush foliage & boulders by the water's edge. Finally, added to Gallery 2 is a pic by Mike of our Brazilian friend Jackeline in a teeny weeny bikini. She is the nekomimi star of Rod Molinaro's web comic Blackjackeline, nya! The latest pics will be on the bottom row of the gallery page. Click on the small 'thumbnail' image to see the full art, nya!

We also have the monthly installment of The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the Ladies of  The Mew review & discuss science fiction, fantasy & horror in visual & purrforming arts, literature, games 'n toys, and occasionally intermew special guests! This month is the 2nd Anniversary Mew, with a few purroduct reviews, discussions, and an intermiew with special guest Ursula! Several catgirl, mermaid & a fey friend were there for the beach luau & discussions- won't you join the audience too, nya?

Mike will have a table in the Artist Alley again at Animazement XII May 22-24 at the Raleigh Convention Center. The Animazement staff are very friendly, industrious fans who always put on a wonderful show, with the great anime guests, activities, mewsic, and lots of art & cosplay nya! It had to move to that mew location because it outgrew the purrior hotel, which we'll miss, but we're glad that the con is such a successful fun event that more 'n more folks wish to attend! Purrhaps Mike will take his very tall No-Face costume there again, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for Apurril, 2009

It is the lovely Spring time here with the Amarylis, Anthurium, Apricot, Azalea, Bird of Paradise, Cherry, Ginger, Heleconia, Hibiscus, and Magnolia in bloom. As such, there are special floral festivals that would be good to take a catgirl to. Purrhaps you could buy her shiny gem as a romantic purresent. The Diamond is the month's birthstone, hint hint! But if that's not in your budget these days, you could win that special catgirl's heart with a corsage, a lei, a fish sammich and a cran apple nummy cherry berry cocktail, or purrhaps the extra special baked yams, nya!

The spring beach fashions are out, and should be less expensive given the skimpier material in the daring bikinis & mailiots this year! Of course the local mermaids are not wearing much as it is, and the trendy jellycup tops, made of the translucent bells of bioluminescent (non stinging) jellyfish continue to sell like hot crabcakes. The Faeries- certainly not purrudish when soaking up the sun- are taking a liking to those too, as well as the backless halter-neck tops & sundresses that keep their purretty wings unencumbered, nya.

In addition to the fashions & festivals, occasions in observance include April Fool's Day, National Poetry Month, Jazz Appurreciation Month, Library Week, Autism Awareness Day, World Health Day, Buddah's Birthday, Passover, Easter, Earth Day, Patriots' Day, Administrative Purrofessionals Day, Take Our Daughters & Sons To Work Day,  and our big Fighter Kite Compurrtition, nya! There are the athletic purrsuits too. When they aren't cat napping after the treats, the islanders enjoy golf, tennis, baseball, purrkour, cycling, beach volleyball, surfing, sailing, and catching big fish, nya!

We have quite a few additions to the The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, by Mike and some guest artists! The thumbnail images to click on, to see those mewest additions, will be on the bottom row of their respective gallery's page.

In Gallery One, older pic of Kat & Kazeyasha's Zodiac Angels characters "Aquarius & Pisces" was refitted a bit, and in Gallery Two are four new images: "Neelakaliomi" the mermaid, Jamie Davenport's character "Halleon" in a daring, possibly 'not work safe' mesh bikini, Lizzy's gothy catgirl sorceress rpg character "Ha’irisalavendara’zure", and a purrtend "Tari vs Apep" poster purrmoting the Apurril 1st MMA (Mixed Mystic Arts) match between Sharon Williams' Osiris Rising heroine Tari & Apep the giant killer snake! I hope Tari makes the snake-meat steaks, nya!

In Gallery Three, we've added six images containing the eleven page conclusion to the Clan of the Cats / Catgirl Island Beach Volleyball Trilogy, originally done for the North Carolina Web Comics Coffee Clatch's 2nd anthology book, Good Luck Sweet Cookie! These are smaller size & lower rez versions of what is purrinted in that book, but you can see the all of the full size pics of the entire trilogy by Jamie Robertson & Mike Moon at this section of COTC!

Meanwhile in our Gallery Four are two more of those revised Zodiac Angels illustrations, "Zodiac Cancer & Apollo's Christmas Greeting" and "Zodiac Cancer, Apollo & Queen Alexandra". In the Guest Gallery of the Mewseum, we are so very purroud to have several new wonderful works of art on display! These include Lizzy & Halleon  "On the Island" by Jamie Davenport, splendid images from the Fae Garden of Rebecca Brogden. and a great mew pic of our mermaid friend & her manatee pup "Dessy & Ruru-chan" by Tonomurabix, nya!

We've also installed a few new URLs out on the Links for your web golfing pleasure. Finally, the latest tidbits for the site include the monthly installment of The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the Ladies of  The Mew review & discuss the genres of science fiction, fantasy & horror in the mediums of visual & purrforming arts, literature, games 'n toys, and occasionally intermew some special guests!

We had such a delightful time at Stellar Con 33 in High Point, NC last month! Sponsored by the fine folks of SF3, after three whole decades it remains a fun gathering of great guests, artists, dealers, fans 'n friends! It was in a very nice hotel, with plenty of panels, games, neat stuff for sale, groups repurresented, the charity auction, and lots of costumes! Our more thorough report on that con can be found in this month's edition of The Mew!

Mike will have a table in the Artist Alley again at Animazement XII May 22-24 at the Raleigh Convention Center. The Animazement staff are very friendly, industrious fans who always put on a wonderful show, nya! It had to move to that mew location because it outgrew the purrior hotel, which we'll miss, but we're glad that the con is such a successful fun event that more 'n more folks wish to attend! Purrhaps Mike will take his very tall No-Face costume there again, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for March, 2009

Mike was very very honored to be among the guests at What The Hell Con, a delightful little convention at the very pleasant Guilford College last month, and could not have enjoyed a better time. Everyone there was so friendly, and the marvelous con staff did such a superb job at creating a most fun 'n festive environment. For our thorough review of the con, please see this The Mew this month, but  his convention gets our highest recommendations, and eager anticipation for going again next year! Domo arigatoo gozaimasu, y'all, nya!

There we had a purreview release of the 2nd anthology book "Good Luck Sweet Cookie" of The North Carolina Web Comics Coffee Clatch which is much bigger than the first volume from 2007. Among the contents by the diverse talents of the NCWCCC members, is  the conclusion of the Catgirl Island / Clan of the Cats Beach Volleyball story. The official purremier of the book will be the Clatch's meeting at May Memorial Library in Burlington, NC on Saturday March 21st! Mike will also be at Stellar Con 33, March 13-15 2009 at the Radisson in High Point, NC, nya!

The Meowy merry month of March is purrticularly significant in both an astrological & astronomical sense to the catgirls of this island, in that the zodiac sign and constellation Pisces is significant, although it really does not require so much to remind them of fish, However it does indicate Take a Catgirl to Lunch Week, and it would be a good time to buy a  bouquet of daffodils to accent the table for those special catgirls' fresh fish dinner(s). Locally caught crabs, lobsters, shrimp, scallops, and oysters would also win their hearts, nya.

Among other special events this month are the continuation of Mardi Gras, American Red Cross Month, Womens Day, National Reading Day, World Math Day, World Water Day, Hanami, Honen Matsuri, Purrince Kuhio Day, Ash Wednesday, Annunciation, Saint Patrick's Day, Good Friday, Easter, Purrim, Vernal Equinox, Earth Day, ACC & NCAA March Madness, our island Aquamarine Festival, the start of  Daylight Savings Time, and the local mermaids' Tides of March Festival, nya!

That would be a good time to buy that special mermaid an extra special baked yam with the crab apple nummy berry juice cocktail for the chaser, nya. Looking ahead to other Sprin and Summer time festivities we wish to putrrtake of on the Carolina mainland, Mike hopes to have an artist table again at Animazement XII May 22-24 at the Raleigh Convention Center. The Animazement staff are very friendly, industrious fans who always put on a wonderful show, nya! Purrhaps Mike will take his tall No-Face costume there again, nya.

A note of Correction & Apology:

Oh gosh- last month we mewsed about going to the North Carolina Renaissance Faire and we mistakenly thought it was still at the state fairgrounds, but it has migrated a bit further northeast  of Raleigh this year to a new spot in nearby Wake Forest, NC. We're sorry, nya! It is on 2 weekends, March 28-29 & April 4-5, 2009. By the way, that is not to be confuzzled with the Renaissance Festival that is held in Charlotte, NC. We hope to don our purriod garb and go to the faire. I wonder if they need any rat catchers? Purrhaps the venders will serve us the big turkey drumstick, nya!

We are honored to purrsent a few new additions by  other such talented folks to the Guest Gallery wing of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art! There's a cute cat eared pic of "Natalie Barker" by Niki Lemonade; Jenjen, Jackie & Red are "Hunting in Rio on Valentines Day" awesomely rendered by Rod Molinaro, a purrfect portrait of "Vonny", one of the Catgirl Critics by Jamie Davenport, a hot pic of Kat & Kazeyasha's "Zodiac Angels: Out of Uniform", catgirl cosplay photos of our friend "Hezachan as Felicia" and an amewsing "Sailor Tiger Omake Theater" by Alexcia & Mike!

Meanwhile  there are also three mew pics by Mike in Gallery One! These include a catgirl wanting her bra autographed in "Her Cups Runneth Over", a "Nine Tailed Fox Girl" ready for the hot spurrings, and a "Nekomimi's Numcious Crab Cake Sammich"! A crab cake sammich and nilla cream milk shake would be a good treat. Those mew images will be on the right side of the bottom row of the respective galleries, nya.

This month's updates include the March edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings! This is Catgirl Island's monthly show in which the Ladies of the Mew (and Mike) review & discuss cinema & television, mewsic & literature, games 'n toys, comics 'n manga 'n anime, cons, cosplay and other visual & purrforming arts. Sometimes they intermiew people, too such as this month's guest Alexandra, Jeff Branch's vampire character who puts the bite on crime in Philadelphia, where they have the nummy cheese steaks - which is ironic given the history of steaks in vampires.

Mike is honored to be a returning guest at What The Hell Con, February 6-8 2009 in Greensboro, NC! It is a wonderful event sponsored by the kind folks of the Guilford College Yachting Club, nya! The college has a purretty, charming campus & the con staff are so friendly! Another event we look forward to is the Nevermore Film Festival at the Carolina Theater in Durham, NC February 20-22! It is a weekend of horror movies in one of the neatest theaters in the region that always draws a great crowd!

At What The Hell Con we hope to have a purreview release of the 2nd anthology book of The North Carolina Web Comics Coffee Clatch, which is to be published this month! That 2nd book is going to be much bigger than the first volume from 2007. Among the contents are words and pictures by the diverse talentes of the NCWCCC members, including the collaboration between Mike and Jamie, the conclusion of their Catgirl Island/ Clan of the Cats Beach Volleyball trilogy.

There are hundreds  friendly and accessible artists, writers and dealers there, and super fun activities such as the discussion panels and art auction, nya! We hope to go to Trinoc*coN in July and Dragon Con in September too, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for January, 2009

Aloha and Happy Mew Year, y'all! Goodness where did 2008 go Things stay busy on Catgirl Island with so many festivities, activities, and catnaps, nya. While the outer banks weather is still mild enough for bikini time, the nippier mid Atlantic breeze is known to bring the ghosts out of the maritime forest. If one is not careful on a night walk to see the ghost lights & fox fire, her tail might get pulled by a spooky tree, nya! But the mysterious night walks are hard to resist, as catgirls are curious, with eyes wide and ears purrked while purrowling for those things to pounce upon.

Special observances of the month include Mew Years Day, Ume (Apricot) Festival, Snow Festival, and Martin Luthor King Day. Among the numerous sporting events are the basketball, billiards, climbing, cricket, cycling, dancing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey,  kites, martial arts, orienteering, parkour, racing, roller derby, rugby, sailing, shooting, skiing, soccer,  surfing, swimming, tennis, and beach volleyball. Of course, the fishing is a purrfurred sport, be it at the lake, river, bay, beach, pier or deep sea to catch that fresh fish dinner.

For that special catgirl in your life, this month's gemstone is the Garnet, hint hint. If that is too purricey, a nice Carnation would bring a happy swish to a catgirl's tail. The flowers would go well in an arrangement on the table to accent that fish dinner, nya. To accompany the meal, we suggest the island signature treats of the cran apple nummy berry cocktail, a crab cake appurrtizer, and the extra special baked yams for the dessert. A serving of flavorful rich cream would also be just the thing to elicit a happy purr from the contented catgirl, nya.

This month's updates include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and Mike) review and discuss cinema & television, mewsic, games 'n toys, literature, comics 'n manga 'n anime, cons, cosplay and other visual & purrforming arts, purrdominantly purrtaining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy & horror. In this January edition of The Mew, Myayr, Lizzy, Jenjen & Vonny also intermew several cast members of Jamie Robertson's  Clan of the Cats as a special featured purresentation, nya!

Speaking of Clan of the Cats, December 15th was the 2nd part of the beach volleyball story collaboration between Mike & Jamie. This was a continuation of the filler story there from April 1st, 2008. This trilogy will conclude in the 2nd anthology book of The North Carolina Web Comics Coffee Clatch, which is supposed to be published in February, nya!

Mike's annotated three pages for Part Two of that tale may be viewed in Gallery Two of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art. Also on display there are a pic of a "Fortune Cookie Catgirl", two of Katrina's Zodiac Angels "Ashley & Rose", and a few of the "Ladies of Clan of the Cats" here for their appearance on The Mew. Mewest pics will be on the bottom row of that gallery's page, nya!

Also in February, Mike will be so very honored to be a returning guest at What The Hell?! Con, February 6th-8th 2009 in Greensboro, NC! It is such a wonderful event sponsored by those kind folks of the Guilford College Yachting Club, nya! Then in March Mike and other NCWCCC members will be at Stellar Con 33 March 13-15 2009 at the Radisson in High Point, NC. It is one of the oldest science fiction conventions in the state, nya! It is sponsored by the swell folks of SF Cubed.

Mike hopes to have an artist table again at Animazement XII, May 22-24 at the Raleigh Convention Center. The staff & volunteers at Animazement are so friendly, industrious clever friends, nya. It is so much fun and it keeps growing, which is why they have relocated to that big new Convention Center! We're also hoping to make the annual trek with fellow members of the Carolina Comic Book Club to Heroes Con, June 19-21 at the Charlotte Convention Center! We've tried to go every year since the early 80's because it is a wonderful event for those who love comix, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for December, 2008

Goodness it is already December, nya! Where has the year gone! It is a purrticularly festive month as the students will be pleased with the end of their semesters and final exams, and thus have more time for catnaps and fun on the sand and surf, nya!

The celebrations continue with National Haiku Poetry Day, Susuharai, Hajj Day, Eid al-Adha, Id al Adha, Muharram and New Years Eve, nya!

December 7th is also the anniversary of when Mike's most favoritest movie of all time purrremiered in 1979, which is of course Star Trek- The Motion Picture, nya!

This is the time when the astrological sign of Saggitarius waves baibai and is succeed by Capurricorn, nya. As such this would be the appurropurriate occasion to give that special catgirl a birthstone such as Topaz, Turquoise, Tanzanite, Zircon, Onyx or a Ruby, nya. If such purrecious gems are too purricey, another good way to win her heart would be with the flowers, nya. A nice Holly Tree for her yard would be quite fashionable this season; a bouquet of Poinsettias would nicely adorn the dinner table, or purrhaps an arrangement of the Narcissus would be the choice.

We're purrdicting this wintery month will heat up with another collaborative crossover with Clan of the Cats, in which the bikini beach volleyball action and purrhaps purrtentially purrofound purrphecies will sizzle on the sand! It will later conclude in a story that'll appear in the 2nd anthology book of The North Carolina Web Comics Coffee Clatch, to be released in early 2009.
Speaking of 2009, Mike has been invited back to be a guest of  What The Hell Con, February 6th-8th 2009 at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, nya!

In December's edition of The Mew, Myayr, Lizzy, Jenjen & Vonny are joined by critics Nyanko & Ilyana, and it purroudly features intermews with Joei Reed, Sarah Hughes, Emathyst, Dan Johnson and Andrew Pepoy nya!

Meanwhile in Gallery One of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, there is a new drawing by Mike, "Festive Fae V" which was a purrposed idea to continue the Festive Fae series, which Mike commissioned our friend Bix to illustrate in color. We're purretty sure the series will stand at the four festive fae pics, but this was not a bad little sketch so it is on display, nya. It is on the end of the bottom row of that gallery page. We're hoping purrhaps next month there'll be a few purreview pics in the galleries of that COTC Beach Volleyball action, nya!

Thank you for surfing to our cordial coastal Carolina community- and we wish y'all plenty of southern hospitality and aloha spirit, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for November, 2008

Goodness it is already November, nya! Where has the year gone! Soon it will be a new year! Although it is still quite warm enough for bikini weather and the purrequisite beach activities, the cooler night breeze from the ocean lends itself to wearing a cute yukata the numerous island events, such as the special Markets, Matsuri, Purrformances and Purrades!  All Saints Day gegins the month as Purresidential Elections ensue. Samhain is in purrogress, and there's a Leonids Meteor Shower to watch! Scorpio relents to Saggitarius later this month, which draws to a close upon the Thanksgiving holiday. While the golf, beach volleyball, fishing and surfing are purrennial sports of choice here, November also heraldis the mew season of ACC Basketball, nya!

November also means Veterans Day, the annual end of Daylight Savings Time, Childrens Book Week, National Writing Month, and Hello Kitty's birthday! it is also Homeless Youth Awareness Month, Alheimer's Disease Awareness Month, Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and the annual Great American Smoke Out. Speaking of smoke, the mesquite is a most flavorful aroma from the grill, and catgirls are quite fond of smoked salmon, if you're inclined to purrvide a good meal. Of course if she is the most special catgirl in your life, this month's gemstone is aquamarine, hint hint. If that is too purricey, a nice chrysanthemum would bring a happy swish to a catgirl's tail, and a  turkey drumstick would be a good treat for a picnic under the colorful autumn maples, nya.

We're purrdicting the winter months will heat up with another collaborative crossover with Clan of the Cats, in which the beach volleyball action and purrhaps purrtentially purrofound purrphecies will continue! The tenth month of the year is an exciting and mysterious autumnal time here at Catgirl Island. There's Teachers Day, Columbus Day, World Food Day, Filipino American and Hispanic American month, days commemorating the heritage of German, Polish & Italian Americans. This would be the purrfect time to buy that special catgirl a tasty Italian, Polish, or German sausage for her lunch. Of course if she is the most special catgirl in your life, the gemstone of the month is Opal. If that is too purricey, a piece of Halloween candy would be a good treat amidst the maples, chrysanthemums and pumpkins.

Although it is still quite warm enough for bikini weather and the purrequisite beach activities, the cooler night breeze from the ocean lends itself to wearing a cute yukata the numerous island events. Every week there's a special matsuri dedicated something fun for everyone to purrticipate in, such as favorite dolls, glowing lanterns, twirling umbrellas, or the puretty flowers. The mermaids' jack o' urchins are a wonderful exhibition too! Their underwater kelp maze is quite a submerged spooky fun challenge. Meanwhile on the nearby mainland, there are so many other regional  conventions, football games, fireworks, scary movies, and haunted Halloween attractions. The North Carolina State Fair is October 16- 26, which is a good place to find the sausages.

Mike will have a table at Paper Heroes Con a convention by Heroes Haven in Burlington, NC October 17-19! We're also hoping to attend Zombie Con 2 in Chapel Hill on October 25th! The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for September, 2008

Aki (Autumn) is upon us this month, which means the mew Fall fashions and soon the changing colors of the maritime forest, while the colourful Kiku (Chrysanthemums) and Momiji (Maples) herald the riverwalk gardens. This month's birthstone is the Sapphire, and the September flower is the Asagao, or Morning Glory, so bear those in mind if you're in a romantic gift giving mood. Of course the lovely gemstone will be far purricier, and the bouquet purrobably more economical but still a lovely purresent for that special catgirl. A purretty crochet bikini or a knit sweater for the later winterness would be nice too, as often the catgirls wind up playing with the unraveled ball of yarn. Thus they rarely make such garments themselves, although there are several nice local boutiques to purrchase them from.

There are plenty of occasions for such things, for September's purrticularly festive events include Labor Day, Grandparents Day, Fire Fighters Day, Citizenship Day, Patriots Day, Rosh Hashanah, Higan (Autumnal Equinox), Chrysanthemum Day, Tsukimi (Moon Watching event) and Mermaid (Ningyo) Matsuri. This year's Mermaid Matsuri Marshall is our friend Formality, a most dapper orca girl! It is the start of the Fall school semester here at Catgirl Island. Although the onset of football season suggests cooler weather sports, the heat and humidity still purrmeate our cordial catgirls' coastal Carolina community's climate. That means there'll be plenty more  time for the playful nekomimi to enjoy the summertime activities in those crochet bikinis, at least until they get into an unraveled purrdicament.

September's site updates include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and sometimes Mike) review and discuss cinema & television, mewsic, games 'n toys, literature, comics 'n manga 'n anime, cons, cosplay and other visual & purrforming arts, purrdominantly purrtaining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy & horror. This month, The Mew comes from Sheila May's Seafood restaurant, where the mermaids are back as special guests!

September Additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art:

in Gallery 3 are Mike's "An Afternoon Apurratif", "Crabcake Sammich", "Creature of the Night", and his "No Face Costume", and In Gallery 5 are more photos of "Mielikki". Meanwhile in the mewseum's Guest Gallery, we're purroud to purrsent a supurrbly purrfect "Exotic Catgirl" image by Emathyst  and a photo courtesy of Vanessa & Andrew of the Chapel Hill Comics Kitty! Mewest pics will be on the bottom row of that purrticular gallery. We've also spurruced up the main pics on the About and Tales pages, and made some groundskeeping revisions out on The Links too.

Domo arigatoo to Jamie Robertson for his mewsual wonderful web mastering!

Thanks for visiting- we wish y'all plenty of southern hospitality and aloha spirit, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for August, 2008

The chorus of Cicada in the deep maritime forests announce the height of the Natsu (summer) Heat on the beaches of our cordial coastal Carolina community. Surfing, Skiing, swimming, diving, fishing, sailing, beach volleyball, and catnap sunbathing are the eight most popular activities during this eight month of the year. August's birthstone is the Peridot, which also known locally as Purridot. This would be a purrfect gift for that special catgirl, mermaid or faerie, as would a lei or big bouquet of August's flower, the Poppy. An arrangement of these would go quite nicely with a fresh fish dinner, extra special baked yams, and a crab apple nummy berry cocktail. Any occasion would do, but August's purrticularly festive events include Friendship Day, Toronagashi (Lantern Floating Event), the Bon Odori sponsored by the shrine, Shobu (Iris) & Hasu (Lotus) Matsuri. Her bowl filled with the numcious peach cobbler slathered with a dollop of nilla ice cream would be a good summer treat for a catgirl.

August's site updates include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and sometimes Mike) review and discuss cinema & television, mewsic, games 'n toys, literature, comics 'n manga 'n anime, cons, cosplay and other visual & purrforming arts purrdominantly purrtaining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy & horror. This month's topics also include recent dining adventures. The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for July, 2008

It's summertime! Also known as Natsu in Japanese, It's the height of the heat on the beach with amewsing activities for catgirls of our cordial Carolina coastal community and a favorite month because of the arrival of the big kitty astrological sign Leo. This is significant, becauseit is a feline zodiac sign under which the catgirls will spend much time lion' around on the beach, usually with a refreshing apple cherry berry cocktail and an ice cream nummy wheel in a nearby cooler.

Of course if it gets too hot, one can plum the depths of the refreshing ocean or the fresh waters, nap on the riverwalk or in the martime forest shade amongst the blooming iris and lotus, or to find an ice cream purrlor for a tasty creamy treat. Fortunately the catgirl catabolism means that  vast quantities of fish dinners and ice cream can be eaten while they still lazily bask in extended catnaps, not having to worry about being able to fit into the season's more daring string bikinis.

This might explain why the island's catgirls wear bikinis most of the time, summer or otherwise, so that soaking up the sun on their tummies might burn more calories. Whereas the local mermaids tend not wear bikinis at all, but there has not been a scientific study to determine if that accounts for the svelte physique. More likely it is the vigorous swimming and playing. As for the local faeries, they'll often cite an afternoon of 18 holes on the Faer'way as purrfurred excercise.

Among the festive events of July are Independence Day, Parents Day, Tanabata, Obon, Adiperukku, Asalha Puja, Tisha B'Av, Ivan Kupala Day, Naadam, Feasts of Saints Declan & Editha, National Ice Cream Month, Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Lotus Matsuri, World Youth Day, The British Open, The MLB All Star Game, World Gliding Championship, Comic Con International, Anime Expo, 2nd Summer Semester Exams, Island Mewsic Festival, and Take a Catgirl to Lunch Week.

July site updates include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and sometimes Mike) review & discuss cinema & television, mewsic, games 'n toys, literature, comics 'n manga 'n anime, cons, cosplay and other visual & purrforming arts purrdominantly purrtaining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror. Also amongst the Mew of July are Mike's reflections on another awesome Heroes Con, and a few words of purraise about Gene Colan, the late Stan Winston, and a happy birthday appurreciation to Syd Mead!

Additions to the Art Mewseum include catgirl pics by Rachel Nabors, Heather and Kat, and an adorable mermaid by the girls at Demonfart Cabbage in the Guest Gallery, There are four mew illustrations by Mike in Gallery Four. Mewest images will be on the bottom row of those galleries. There's been a bit of work out on the Links too, thanks to our wonderful webmaster Jamie!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for the June, 2008

It's that lovely time when Haru (Spring) becomes Natsu (Summer) here at Catgirl Island with Tsutsuji (Azalea), Botan (Peony), Shobu (Iris), Hasu (Lotus) in bloom. Various June occasions at our cordial coastal Carolina community also include festivals for those aforementioned flora, Fathers Day, Flag Day, Summer Solstice, Shavuot, Kamehameha Day, Bamboo Faire, and Wild Rice Matsuri. This is the most popular month for catgirls, mermaids and fae (oh my) to have their weddings.

Favorite spots for such betrothals in addition to the various churches, temples & shrines include The Kitt Inn ryokan, the 18th FAErway gazebo, Susanowa Beach, the riverwalk bridge in beautiful downtown Purrbank, the reefy grotto by Sheila May's... and the Island Skeet & Trap Club for those occasional shotgun weddings! Of course there is the scenic courthouse with the 1:1 scale giraffe sculptures (an art grant) mingled amongst the towering royal palm trees in the courtly courtyard.

There are abundant sporting activities all over the island as May is a fine time to go cycling, running, dancing, climbing, swimming, diving, surfing, skiing, boating, kite flying, shooting, and of course, the catgirls love to go fishing. You could easily find a game of golf, tennis, soccer, cricket, baseball, frisbee or beach volleyball. Should the Summer heat purr-ove too intense, one can retreat indoors for cool billiards, bowling, dancing, gymnastics, yoga, martial arts, hockey and roller derby.

Of course, leisure time for the town's catgirls & mermaids & fae (oh my!) isn't limited to sports, festivals, dining, gardening and marriage. Several highly anticipated films premier this month such as Get Smart, The Incredible Hulk, Kung Fu Panda, Sex and the City, and WALL-E. Hopefully the nearest theaters will screen those! There are lots of other tasty cultural events going on. Purr-sumably after all of these many fun activities there will be much cat napping with full tummies in the sun.

Catgirls take their power naps quite seriously, purr-ticularly after Catabolizing the tasty food after all that frisky playtime. This indicates that for the catgirl fiance or bride, you should consider purr-chasing for her something comfy for the napping. Depending on your budget and her modesty, might we suggest for the catgirl in the Summer heat: pajamas, yukata, babydoll negligee, oversized sleeper tee, a loose crop top & boxer shorts, or a fluffy pillow for that sleepwear- optional catgirl.

Catgirls are quite fond of napping in the sunny sun on a warm roof top, so a cool bikini and a spacious beach towel would purr-obably go over well. If you are the one who'll be purr-posing marriage, few things win a catgirl's heart (and tummy) more than a fine kettle of fish. You'll have to determine her purr-furred kind of fish and not just the flavor or how to purr-pare it, but just as you might with flowers, make sure to research the meaning associated with giving that specific kind of fish.

We had such a wonderful time at Bot Con and Animazement and would like to thank all of the wonderful kind, talented people there that contributed to all the fun, from the con & hotel staff, guests, dealers, artists, friends and fellow fans! We are anticipating another awesome Heroes Con and also considering Neko Con too.

Updates to this site include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the ladies of The Mew review and discuss cinema / television, mewsic, internet, games 'n toys, literature, comics / manga, cons & costumes and other visual & purr-forming arts as purr-taining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror.

Mew illustrations by Mike Moon in Art Gallery 5 include "The Ladies of The Mew", "More Igor", "Kitt Flash" and a couple of older Trek pics. There are also banners on the links page, should you like to use them on your sites to link here! There are a few new links there too. There are three lovely additions to the Guest Gallery, of 3 delightful illustrations by Niki Lemonade and Becky Kittenpie! Domo Arigatoo to our friend and web master Jamie for keeping our web sites so well groomed!

Thank y'all for visiting! We wish y'all much southern hospitality & aloha spirit!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for March, 2008

Mike was very very honored to be among the guests at What The Hell Con, a delightful little convention at the very pleasant Guilford College last month. They had a record attendance this year, and could not have enjoyed a better time. Everyone there was so friendly, and the marvelous con staff did such a superb job at creating a most fun 'n festive environment. This convention gets our highest recommendations, and eager anticipation for going again next year! Domo arigatoo gozaimasu, What The Hell Con!

The Merry month of March is purrticularly significant in both an astrological & astronomical sense to the catgirls of this island, in that the zodiac sign and constellation Pisces is significant, although it really does not require so much to remind them of fish, However it does indicate Take a Catgirl to Lunch Week, and it would be a good time to buy a bouquet of daffodils to accent the table for those special catgirls' fresh fish dinner(s). Locally caught crabs, lobsters, shrimp, scallops, and oysters would also win their hearts.

That is not the only special event this month, for there is also the continuation of Mardi Gras, Womens History Month, Womens Day, National Reading Day, Ash Wednesday,
Saint Patrick's Day, Vernal Equinox, Hanami, Honen Matsuri, Easter, Purim, Arba'een, Earth Day, Wrestlemania, our Aquamarine Festival, Daylight Savings Time, and the

Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for November, 2007

Aloha y'all! It is the cooler autumn season, chilled by the mid-Atlantic Ocean breezes and the ghosts that might be dancing the dark. One can never tell what lurks in the maritime forests...

It is a colorful time on the island, from gold and pink chrysanthemums on Course No.2, to the rich scarlet and amber Maples along the downtown riverwalk. And no trip would be complete without a bike trek through the lush emerald bamboo groves, to enjoy a basket full of banana sammiches and sweet iced tea in a cozy spot amidst the dunes, with a hammock for napping.

It can be such a busy season of football & festivals yet the quieter moments are far from silent as the cicadas, loon and crickets perform after sunset, and the evening lanterns have been lit. In addition to all that activity on the gridiron, faerways and beaches, this month's fun includes:

Diwali, Gagaku Dance, Shichi Go San, Cultures Day, Samhain, All Saint's Day, Thanksgiving Dia de los Muertos, Veterans' Day, Children's Day, Remembrance Day, Diabetes Awareness Month, Native American Month, Arab American Month, International Drum Month, The Leonid Meteor Shower Viewing, A Catgirl Island Film Festival, and the end of Daylight Savings Time!

Mew tidbits for November are The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, being their monthly review and discussion of science fiction, fantasy & horror genre books, comics, movies, TV, web sites 'n toys. Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for October, 2007

Aloha y'all! It's the cooler autumn season, chilled by the mid-Atlantic Ocean breezes and the ghosts that might be dancing the dark.

It can be a rather busy time of football and festivals, yet the quieter moments are far from silent as the cicadas, loon, and crickets perform after sunset, and the evening lanterns have been lit. In addition to the usual activity on the gridiron, faerway and beaches, this month's fun includes the dance festival, archery and fishing tournaments, Oktoberfest, and Halloween celebrations!

Which means customary large bowls of treats by the door for the sweet fang of a trick 'r treater, and these catgirls are known to eat vast amounts of holiday morsels. They're purrticularly fond of fresh fish and roast beef, should you plan on providing fare to costumed visitors on Oct 31st. They say it's good luck to feed a catgirl on Halloween, but then it's usually catgirls that say that.

On the mainland in Raleigh is the ever so fun North Carolina State Fair which means contests, performances, displays, critters, games and numcious foods that tempt many a catgirl's tummy. That is purrcisely why they play so much beach volleyball, to maintain their svelteness after so many meals & catnaps. The mermaids don't seem to have that problem, but that is another tail.

But wait- there's more! Among new tidbits for October are The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings latest monthly reviews of science fiction, fantasy & horror genre books, comics, toys, movies & TV shows. So, please join Elizabeth, Yvonne, Jeannie and Mary Nyan this month as they also welcome a couple of special guests to 'The Mew'!

Meanwhile, there are some new spiffy images on display In our Moonsium of Art. In the Guest Gallery, we're very excited to present a a lovely new faerie illustration by our talented friend Bix titled "Night Faever"! Given the popularity of works by Bix here, we think this latest acquisition- a companion piece to a prior fae pic, will be one of the most collections' most admired pieces!

There are also a few additions to Gallery 2! We're pleased to present for your consideration, a few annotated examples of Mike's photography, This first batch of photos has not been shown for several years, and we hope to add more pics 'o people, plants 'n planes in coming months!

Upcoming appearances:
Mike is quite honored to be among the guests at What The Hell?! Con, a most delightful and free little convention at the very pleasant Guilford College in Greensboro, NC February 8-10, 2008!

Mmm, thassabout it.. Thank y'all very much for visiting, and please enjoy our island hospitality!

Mews & Announcements for August, 2007

Aloha, y'all!

August is a hot time for the festive-minded, with celebrations of lanterns and bonfires,
and a great time for bikini clad catgirls to bask in the sun on the fine sandy beaches or to luxuriate in the hot spring baths. Maple tree leaves seem ablaze in rich gold & red color, hot sauce for that bucket of shrimp, and even hotter salsa dancing at the midnight hour...

But one can enjoy a cool time as well, swaying in a lofty hammock in a new beach house breezeway, sipping a tasty beverage under the arbor of the town river-walk, or a tall cool one by the towering magnolia and azalea-scaped fare-way. The crystalline ocean waters from shallowest turquoise pools to deepest azure depth offer a most exhilarating plunge!

White and pink Lotus bloom in the water gardens by morning light, then take a siesta as the noon lunch crowd dines amidst lush beds of Chrysanthemum and lovely live mewsic. Evergreen trees and bamboo thickets enshroud the misty onsen of the inns, forming tall curving corridors of emerald along the bike & walking paths through the maritime forest.

There are waves to be ridden, fish to be caught, shrines to tour, baseball in the park, and the mewseums of art to explore. Finally, if you have the time, purrhaps you could read our Catgirl Critics interview with the cast of the web comics Clan of the Cats and Sebo's Kitty Club! and there's a lovely a mew addition to the Moonsium of Art's Guest Art Gallery!

Thank y'all for visiting!

Mews & Announcements for June, 2007

Aloha y'all!

Summer is here, which means bustling fun, on sand 'n surf... anywhere under the sun! Kites & balloons fill the sky so blue, of course the shaded inland areas are hopping too -from golfers at morning tee by the sea, to caffe shoppers sipping their own tea casually; along the bike paths spin the cyclists' wheels, and into the boats tasty fishies are reeled!

The surfboards are waxed, the hammocks are strung, and from many eaves the Coy Windsocks are hung. From Salsa to Hula & Belly there's dance, the vernal breeze on the coast fills hearts with romance! Crowds mingle with drinks in galleries open quite late; and platters of sushi are served, made from eels (caught with bait)!

Azalea, Peony, and Lotus all bloom, while at night the festivals' fireworks go BOOM! Scent of iris and Wisteria linger in air, as bikinis and volleyballs bounce everywhere. Yacht sails are raised for a day on the ocean, as sunbathers spread on the SPF lotion. Softballs are swung at in hopes of home runs, and catgirls eat nummy cinnamon buns.

Yeah, we like it here!

If you've not visited in a while, you'll notice a few additions. In the Moonsium of Art. We've added some wonderful new illustrations by guest artist friends. There is even more of my own art on display; with Gallery 4 full, we opened Gallery 5, and gosh it is almost full too! It's been a prolific time between the newer creations and some older works we dusted off.

We hope you'll enjoy the imagery!

Continuing a tradition here at Catgirl Island, our Web Picks of the Litter for the month are: Sunrise Shock Theater, The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, and Trinoc*coN's web site.

That first one is our pal Jamie's (Clan of the Cats) monthly commentary on classic older horror, science fiction & fantasy films. The second site is also a monthly page dedicated to those genres, but in a more a chatty discussion of recent films, TV, books, comics, etc. Thirdly, Trinoc*coN is the Triangle Area's Speculative Fiction Conference in it's 8th year!

We hope y'all will enjoy your visit!

Mews & Announcements for May, 2007

Hi folks- we're back! Allow me to explain what happened... Back in 1998 I started to ponder a website to showcase my artistry, with catgirls as your tour guides to give the site a hopefully aMEWsingingly memorable quality, and that ultimately evolved into a mythical place I created & named Catgirl Island (long before any other folks did with other unaffiliated websites of the same name). The site, designed to be a mythical island populated by catgirls and mermaids and fae off the North Carolina coast (see map) went online in early 2000 to showcase my own illustrations, photography, stories, and even a few choice tidbits by guest contributors. Who knew that just a couple of years later I'd be dealing with certain anxieties in my life and grow quite weary of maintaining a web site, dealing with spammers, telemarketers, art thieves, imitators, server outtages and so forth. And so it was with a great deal of sadness that just a few years later I failed to renew the domain name, then catgirlisland.com, and I shut down the website. Which unfortunately allowed some unknown other person to snag that domain name. But I suppose absence make the heart grow fonder, as I later began to regret shutting down my site, especially as an illustrator/ designer trying to make a living by drawing catgirls, going to conventions & art shows and telling customers that I no longer had a website, when it seemed that everyone else did.

Many a friend and client would often say how they missed my site and hoped I'd restart it someday. Plus, the catgirls were getting bored. So after a lot of soul-searching I am no proud to declare that the original, first, official Catgirl Island is back online, with a slightly new look and a new URL, catgirlisland.net. Accept no substitute! The site is just now being rebuilt from cat scratch, so it'll be a while before we're fully restored, with all the old images plus many new ones y'all might not have seen. Please bear with us- we're getting there And by 'we', I refer to myself and my dear old friend Jamie Robertson whom I've known since elementary school Jamie is the co-designer of this '2.0' and the webmaster, as if that were not enough on his plate because he's already busy enough with his own Clan of the Cats, Sebo's Kitty Klub and other fare. Jamie, I canna thank you enough! While I'm at it, there are others I wish to thank. There's Margaret Coin, who taught me so much about the computer and how to use the software that was the architecture for Catgirl Island years ago. Then there's my pal Mike Teague, who was my poor over-worked webmaster on the old site. There are so many other members of family, friends, and clients, that if I were to name you all this little message would cease to be a 'little' message, but over time I hope to acknowledge all of y'all here where the catgirls enjoy their festive fun under the moon and sun. Speaking of which, they have been patiently waiting for me to bring them their fish sammiches for some time now, so enough rambling for now. Expect more soon... and be well!

Thanks everyone -

Mike Moon, creator/ founder of Catgirl Island

Appearances: Mike will be at Animazement, May 25-27 2007
