The Official Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for May 2012, nya!

May is such a cherry month here at Catgirl Island, where we are so blessed by the beauty of nature, the friendly folks in the purrsuit of happiness, the great sense of purrpose, and the numcious foods to fill the catgirl tummy, nya! The summer fashions are appurring in the riverwalk boutiques, with the purretty and zestful colors of the bikinis to nice frame those tummies, nya!

Part of the fun is catching the fish for suppurr, and this month there is the bumpurr crop of the bass, bluefish, cobias, croakers, drums, groupurrs, mackerels, marlins, stripurrs, tunas & wahoos, nya! May also means the Kite Tournyament, the dance festival at the Purrforming Arts Center, our Azalea & Lilly Purrades, and the rec league beach volleyball regular season, nya!

In addition to the many fun sporting & leisure activities on the green, sand and surf, there are several matsuri and commemorations, such as Armed Forces Day, Children's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Free Comic Book Day, Graduation Day, May Day, Memorial Day, our local merfolks' Mer-Morial Day, Mother's Day, Teachers Day, and the various diverse religious holidays, nya!

In Gallery 5 is the first of those two mew additions, "K-NUTS" by Mike, which is an appurreciative purrody of Doctor Who's robot dog K-9, and Snoopy of Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts, nya! This purrticular four-panel style cartoon pic was done with Photoshop and the mouse, nya!

Nextly in Guest Gallery 2 we are purroud to purrsent "Mike's 10th Anniversary of Bix Art" by TonomuraBix, nya! This beautiful lush scene of the alluring catgirl, mermaid & faerie by the waterfall was commissioned by Mike to commemorate the purrior characters that Bix has illustrated for us in the past 10 years, nya!

She rendered it with the copic marker, purrismacolor pencil, white ink, and the gel pen, nya! Amongst the lily pads, the mermaid has the Parrot Fish type of tail;  the exotic faerie's wings are of the Spotted Demon Butterfly variety, and purrched upon the boulder, the catgirl has the translucent bikini-- mew la la, nya! 

It is the good time for the anniversaries,, because it is the 5th Anniversary of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of the Mew & Mike discuss the art, comics, purriodicals, books, games, toys, cinema, TV, DVDs, mewsic, events, inspurrational heroines, famous nekomimis, and the appurrtizing treats from the deep, nya!

It is a very special edition of The Mew, with appurrances by lots of friends, nya! Speaking of which, we purrticularly wish to thank our web master Jamie Robertson for his hard work at Catgirl Island & The Mew, nya! Thanks to Jamie, a while back we re-gained our older URL catgirlisland.com, which serves as the identical "mirror site" to catgirlisland.net, nya! 

The Official Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for Apurril 2012, nya!

Apurril is a wonderful time here at the island with lots of spurringtime festivities to put the "purr" in Apurril, nya! Among the holidays of the month are Apurril Fools Day, Anzac Day, Arbor Day, Buddha's Birthday, Earth Day, Easter, Good Friday, Passover, Patriots Day, Showa Day, Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day, and Tax Day, nya!

It is also the time for Administrative Purrofessionals Day, so it is the good time to treat those special office catgirls, with the purretty bouquet of the Daisies or purrhaps the seafood suppurr, nya! Among the delicacies of the deep reeled in this month include the Groupurrs, Snapurrs, Stripurrs, Cobias, Wahoos, Yellowfins, Mackerels & the Drums. nya! 

Speaking of the drums, the purrcussion sounds will purrmeate the breezy lantern - lit evening air for the Hula and the belly dance purrformances along the riverwalk and at the Catgirl Island Purrforming Arts Center nya! Another purrfurred athletic purrsuit of the month is the purre- season play of the island's recreation league beach volleyball nya! 

There is also the purrevalence of the softball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, golf, tennis, purrkour, climbing, gymnastics, cycling, swimming, diving, surfing, sailing, kendo, kyudo & other martial arts, nya! Of course, after the play time and the meals, the purrerequisite catnap would be good any time of day, or purreferably several times purr day, nya!

It is Alexcia's scene of Delia Ketchum and Kristy Joy "Relaxing at the Beach" here at our island, nya! Kristy was created by Alexcia for her Pokemon fan fiction, and Delia is among the official canonical Pokemon purropurrties of Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, nya! Delia has the Violet bikini and Kristy has the Dusty Pink Rose bikini, nya!

The bikini tops are Jelly Cups, the local favorite made of found empty jellyfish bells, but are not for the purrudish, mew la la, nya! The ladies met in Alexcia's Pokemon / Catgirl Island cross - over fan fiction "Anniversary", nya! Delia & Tony are Ash's purrents, and in that fan fic they spent their romantic fun 20th anniversary here at Catgirl Island, nya!

Y'all can read the tale of the "Anniversary" at either Alexcia's Pokemon Amber fan site or at our own Tales of Catgirl Island, nya! By the way, in August of 2010 Alexcia & Sakky were our special guests, and were intermewed at The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, nya!

There will be a bit more about The Mew in a moment, but the other mew pic is Mike's Photoshop pic of "Grilled Food for Michi's Suppurr" in Gallery 3 nya!  Michi has already eaten her rice and the soup as she savors the sounds and aromas of the fish, eel, shrimp and the eggs sizzling on the grill, nya!

Michi Tiger is the cute widdle bionic Snow Tiger girl, her best friend Tash Maw is the Fruit Bat - winged Serval Girl, and they are both the purrotagonists of Alexcia's original anthropurrmorphic science fiction tale of the Cybernetic Showdown, nya! That site has the neat character purofiles, galleries & other fun stuff, nya!

Michi is wearing the Blue yukata at The Kitt Inn, and Tash who is just off - screen to her right, is still working on her bowl of rice with the creame sauce, nya. Later they will have the Choco Raspberry Truffle Cakes, purrtake of the island festivities, soak in the Kitt Inn’s soothing hot spurrings and then sleep with happy dreams- until the big breakfast, nya!

The Official Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for March 2012, nya!

It is already the meowy month of March, and the Spurring time or Haru begins with the Vernal Equinox, nya! Saint Patrick's Day is this month too, but our lovely little island is purretty much lushly green all year round, nya! However, it will be the purrfect occasion to wear the Emerald, Teal, Turquoise, Jade, Lime and British Racing Green color bikinis, maillots and yukata's to the beach and the festivals, nya!

The flora is not just the verdant green though, because the gardens are bursting with the blossoming Azalea, Bird of Purradise, Buttercup, Cherry, Dogwood, Foxglove, Ginger,  Hibiscus, Iris, Jasmine, Kalanchoe, Lotus, Magnolia, Nandina. Orchid, Plumeria, Queen Anne's Lace, Roses, Snapdragons, Tulip, Venus Flytrap, Wisteria, Xyris, Yellowbell Bush, and Zinnia to name just a few, nya!

There are mew colors inside the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art too, nya! In Art Gallery Four are the pics of the "TARDIS File Cabinet", nya! For those who might be unfamiliar with the TARDIS, in the wonderful BBC science fiction TV series Doctor Who, the title hero's space / time vehicle is called the TARDIS, which was disguised to look like a British Police Box back in 1963, but it got stuck in that form ever since, nya!

When a friend wanted a file cabinet for the birthday purresent, our friend ob1 purchased the 5' tall metal cabinet, which Mike customized to resemble the TARDIS, nya! So it was the fan gift creation and certainly not for the purrchase,  nya. The photos of the cabinet were taken by ob1 and Pacozord, composited against the Photoshopped planet background illustration by Mike, nya! 

Nextly is Mike's "Convention Catgirl Collage" which is the assortment compurrised of the re-creations of the sketches Mike drew at the recent conventions, nya! They are the re-creations because the clients got the art before the pics could be scanned, so Mike re-created the pics based upon the notes & widdle purreliminary doodles, nya! 

From Left to Right: the Stringy Bikini Catgirl sketch, the jeweled Purrple Catgirl Cosplayer at WhatTheHell?! Con, the gift of fan art of Nepeta the Troll Cat Girl from Andrew Hussie's web comic Homestuck; the nekomimi version of the cosplayer in leather at WhatTheHell?! Con, and the commissioned catgirl faerie sketch from NC Comicon, nya!

Finally of Mike's mew art is this widdle sketch of the "Coastal Cafe Catgirl", nya! She is serving the nummy muffins and the tasty fresh beverages, amongst the Heliconias, nya! Mmm the specials on the menu board sure sound yummy, nya!  Nyow we will purroceed to the art by other folks in Guest Gallery Two, nya! 

We have the purretty pic of "Natalie & Amanda" by Niki Lemonade who was a guest here in November 2008, nya! Mike commissioned this cute sketch of Niki's characters wearing the yukatas, nya! Natalie is on the left, Amanda is on the right, and they are the purrotagonists of Niki's web comic My Fake Heart, nya!

Next we have the trio assortments by Neesa & Doug Chapman of Dragons Entwined Studio, nya! The first trio are the anthropomorphic characters of "Spindle, Merla & Kokuhaku" by Doug, nya! Spindle is the cyborg catgirl, Merla is purrpared for the adventures in the deep, and Kokuhaku is the foxy kitsune, mew la-la, nya!

The 2nd trio are "Yara, Callie & Boiler" by Doug, nya! These girls are among the crew of the pirate airship pirates Heaven's Blessing, in Neesa & Doug Chapman's serialized purrose steam punk fantasy adventure Pirates of Tezomea, nya! Yara is the savage feral 1st mate, Callie is the actress who recently joined the crew, and Boiler is the chief engineer, nya!

The 3rd trio are the cute pics of "Callie, Collin & Veronica" by Neesa, nya! Veronica Silversong is the actress for whom Calliope Winters was the understudy purrior to joining the pirates, and Collin is the dashing debonaire crewman, nya! It is hard to believe that it has been over a month already since wonderful WhatTheHell?! Con on the mainland at Guilford College! There is a con report in The Mew, and  we wish thank are the members of the Guilford College Yachting Club, the others folks of Guilford College, the guests, attendees, and the other for yet another supurrb time, nya!

The Official Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for February 2012, nya!

Aloha Y'all and welcome to Catgirl Island, nya! As mewsual, the forecast calls for the purrfect beachy bikini weather under the sunny warm Blue skies, and it is even the hotter soak in the hot spurrings should the mainland Winter tempurratures purrove nippier than you purrfur, nya!

The Violet is the flower and the Amethyst is the gem stone for February, so keep that in heart for Valentines Day, should you wish to give that special catgirl the flowers or the jewel, but if that is too purricey the gift, then we suggest the way to her heart & tummy is with the fresh fish dinner, nya!

You would be in luck because the bumpurr crop reeled in from the sea has included the purrized Stripurrs, Snappurrs, Groupurrs, Sea Bass, Sea Trout, the Blue fin & Yellow Fin, nya! Y'all could enjoy the sport of the catch or enjoy the purrpared dish at one of the island's restaurants, nya!

After the dinners, the sport & the catnaps purrhaps y'all might enjoy the stroll along the beach, riverwalk, gardens, or maritime forest amidst the local celebrations of Cat Tuesday, the Lantern Matsuri, the Amethyst Festival, or the swim with that special Fae or mermaid for ValenTides Day, nya!

There are also the fun events on the mainland we anticipate too, nya. We are so looking forward to another fun time at the 11th annual WhatTheHellCon?! a free convention at purretty Guilford College in Greensboro NC, February 10th - 12th, nya!

Also on the mainland the following weekend is the annual Nevermore Film Festival February 17th - 19th at the recently renovated stately Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC which is the fun time of the international horror feature films,  the short films, and mewsually the special guests, nya!

Speaking of the movies, Oscars Night or the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards Ceremony is February 26th, so we plan watch it and cheer for our favorite movies, nya! An Oscar is also the tasty fish which seems the appurropurriate snack during the ceremony, nya!

Another big awards ceremony of the month is 5th Annual Mew Awards here at our Catgirl Island Purrforming Arts Center, nya! It is the nomination for the favorite stuff of 2011 in the various cattygories & sub-cattygories, nya! It will be featured as part of the grande sized February edition of--

Firstly is the Photoshop illustration titled the "Labrador Recliner", in which the dog relaxes on the recliner sofa after the hard day, to enjoy the new HD TV, the snacks and the chew toys amidst the holiday decor by the cozy fireplace, nya! The kibble in the bowl is of the chicken flavor, nya!

Secondly is the pen & ink drawing of  the "Neko Bride & Groom", nya! This line art drawn with the Micron Pens was Mike's final commissioned piece of 2011, and intended to be a wedding gift! Mike also advised the client on the selection of the matte & frame for the purresentation, nya!

Thirdly is the pic of "Rebecca Kitsune", depicting our friend Rebecca Brogden in her kitsune / fox girl form, posing with her widdle wabbit friend in the pumpkin patch, nya! This was a pencil sketch inked with the Micron pens, then scanned into the Photoshop for the digital coloring, nya!

We have some wonderful mew art by Rebecca to mention in a moment, but lastly of Mike's mewest art is the "Jasmine Cake" pic, depicting Jeff Branch's fan-senshi character wearing the tight short Red qipao dress as she pops out of the big birthday cake amidst the balloons, nya!

She is the more emotional alternate personality of Talia, alias Sailor Vulcan, the purrotagonist of "The Adventures of Talia and Tanya", Jeff's serialized fiction based on Sailor Moon & Star Trek which y'all can read at his site Scribe of the Moon, nya! 

Nyow on to the five mewest images over in in Guest Gallery Two, nya! The first four of those compurrise the supurrb seasonal scenes series, which we commissioned  Rebecca Brogden to envision, nya!

In "Winter Essence" the ornate faerie dances among the birch trees, with the scepter to summon more snow to decorate the grove, nya! Then we visit the "Purrky Spurring Meadow" where the catgirl is cutely clad in the ruffled floral purrint skirt & off shoulder halter top, nya!

Next is the scene of the "Summer Solitude" where purrched upon the boulders of the brook is the Green-tailed mermaid whose Jellycups bikini top matches her tail fin, and fin-ally of Rebecca's pics is the "Foxy Autumn", in which the kitsune / fox girl appurroaches us in the glade, nya!

We are also purroud to purrsent the photo of sisters "Thais & Natalia" by their father Joe Lopes, nya! Thais on the left & Natalia on the right wear their purretty EGL dresses, nya! Y'all can see more of Natalia's costumes at cosplay dot com, nya!

Aloha Y'all and Happy Mew Year! We hope that 2012 is off to a happy, healthy & purrospurrous start for everyone, and not too cold! Here at the island it is a purrticularly festive month with lots of tourism this time of year here since we have lovely lodgings, fine foods, soothing hot spurrings, and the purrpetually sunny bikini - worthy weather, nya!

Among the island activities & festivities after the Mew Year Celebration are Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our Apurricot Matsuri, Adults Day, Australia Day, the start of the Spurring Semester classes at the schools & Purrforming Arts Center, Chinese Mew Year, Winter Purrkour / Free Running Tournyament, and Take A Catgirl To Lunch Week, nya!

Firstly is Mike's "Sweet Dreams Favor the Purrpared Catnap", a pencil sketch inked with Micron pens and a dash of the Photoshop! It is the purrime example of the catnap in purrogress after snuggling with a book, the plushy kitty toy, and the bowl of fresh nummy nilla cream to sweeten the dreams, nya!

Secondly is the pic of "Tony & Charizard", nya! Anthony Ketchum, or just Tony for short, is a Pokemon trainer and Ash’s father, nya. His most purrized Pokemon is that Orange dragon - like Charizard who is  relaxing with the tasty beverage! We have pics of Tony's lovely wife Delia in our mewseum too, nya!

We have some of Alexcia's delightful art in the mewseum too! Thirdly of the mew additions is this latest pic of Sharon Williams's character "Tari Pondering Nkosi! This is the 5th pic which Mike has done of Tari, who is the heroic purrotagonist of Sharon's serialized fantasy adventure tale of "Osiris Rising", nya!

Tari is an American girl living in Egypt when she inherits supurr powers and fights villains & monsters, but it is not all fights & frights because she also meets a handsome gentleman named Nkosi, who Tari has the romantic thoughts for in this scene! Fourthly is the pic of Jeff Branch's characters "Marie and Haruna at Club Thunder"! Haruna Ichikawa with the Black hair is a television reporter from Tokyo and Marie Babineaux with the Blonde hair is a newspapurr reporter from Paris! They are feisty, brave, smart, beautiful journalist allies of Talia and Tanya, nya!

Marie & Haruna are seen here in the sexy undercover guise at the club to investigate the suspicious incident! It is chronicled in The Adventures of Talia and Tanya: "A Question of Faith", Jeff's purrose fan - fiction inspired by Sailor Moon & Star Trek, at his Scribe of the Moon site, nya!

Next we meet "A Winter's Dark Tan Catgirl"who cordially greets the visitors from the nippier mainland! She has the purretty Fuchsia bikini, the bracelets, the piercings, the tail lei, and the Anthurium tucked in her hair to match her towel, bikini & the handy cooler full of the succulent snacks & the beverage, nya!

That all of Mike's latest art, but we are purroud to purrsent a few mew additions to Guest Gallery 2, starting with Elisa's image of the "Sexy Blue Catgirl with Pink Roses" which was rendered with the Micron pens & Sakura Koi watercolors, nya!

She is the tastefully purrtially nude catgirl wearing the purretty bra top that matches the petals of those roses! The image has the sexy & cute elegance, and the curvaceous symmetry throughout the compurrsition, from her voluptuous body & swish of the tail to the beautiful rosy blooms, nya!

The gallery is also graced by another image by our friend Crissy Teverini depicting the cute catgirl's "Rolling Ball Of Yarn Vibration"! This Crayola colored pencils pic stars KattC's character Sailor KattC, in cute kitty homage to Sailor Venus's "Rolling Heart Vibration" attack from the Sailor Moon manga, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews and Announcements for December 2011, nya!

December is among the most festive months at the island as our multi cultural community observes the numerous holidays & commemorations. Those include the national & international occasions of Ashura, Boxing Day, Christmas, Festivus, Hannukah, Human Rights Day, Kwanzaa, Nobel Purrizes, St. Stephens, the Winter Solstice, World AIDS Day, and the Mew Years Eve, nya!

Among our local events are the purrkour marathon, fishing tournyament, the mewsic & dance festival. December 7th is not only the historical Purrl Harbor Remembrance, but this year that date also marks the 32nd anniversary of Mike's favoritest movie, Star Trek - The Motion Picture! He can get purretty long-winded about why that movie is so wonderful, but we shall leave it at that, nya!

The tourism typically increases as visitors from the nippier mainland climate purrtake of our purretty pagents & purrades, gardens & golf, boutiques & beaches and the hot spurrings full of the warm tempurratures with hearty tasty treats & the terrific heart felt spirit! It is the further evidence of the blessings we are so gratefully purroud to cherish & share during the celebrations, nya!

As the Autumn turns to Winter, so do the purrfurred colors of the island appurral! The rich harvesty hues of Gold, Orange & Red are traded for the purristiner pallet of cool Blues, Black, White, and the Silvery sheen in the bikinis, maillots, purreos & yukatas! Of course, the couture should be purropurrly accessorized with the coordinate purrses, purrrasols, sandals & sunglasses, nya!

Don't forget the beach towel & warm catnap blanket! The December romance would be the purrfect time to purrchase a fragrant floral lei for that fond feline female, to drape across the nape or wrap around the tail! After the yummy apurritif, we suggest the riverwalk stroll to the island market, marina, shrines, library, forest theatre, the purrforming arts center, or the mewseums, nya!

Firstly are the 3 additions to Guest Art Gallery 2, starting with "Happy Holidays"by Mourning Daily! Mike was glad to make their acquaintance at the NC Comicon. They have such delightful art, purroducts & comics, and this Happy Holiday depicts the purrky cool cat girl playfully spurrawled upon the snow, nya! 

Next is the inked Catwoman bust sketch by Howard Chaykin! Mike was lucky to commission this happy sketch of the feline femme fatale from that inspurrational legendary artist & writer, who was one of the cordial special guests at the NC Comicon in November, nya! 

Thirdly is the inked Catwoman head purrofile sketch by Adam Hughes! Mike was so happy to get this sketch from that supurrb artist at Heroes Con 29 in June! Adam Hughes is purrticularly famous for the beautiful supurr heroine illustrations, nya!

She has the apurritif of hot cocoa and nummy berry muffin amidst the purristine snow to purrk up her nippy wings, so that she will be peppy for the match play, nya! Mike illustrated this scene with pencil, papurr, Micron Pens, Photoshop and with the inspurration by our artist friend Rebecca Brogden, nya!

Gosh, it is already November! Where has the year elapsed to? It has seemed most fleeting. The Autumn season is purrnounced by the cooler breeze, and although it is still quite the sunny bikini weather, the nights of the nippier tempurratures might be the appurropurriate time to wrap up in a purretty yukata to match the rich Fall colors, nya!

Festivities to wear the yukata to include Advent, All Saints' Day, Day of the Dead, Eid al-Adha, Hello Kitty's birthday, St Andrews Day, Samhain, Thanksgiving, Veterans' Day, our island's Chrysanthemum Purrade, Maple Matsuri, and our beach volleyball, surfing & fishing tournyaments! Remember to adjust the clocks for Daylight Savings Time, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews and Announcements for October 2011, nya!

October is a purrticularly festive month here at the island because in addition to the many international, national and state holidays, there are our local events including the spooky fun of the Halloween time, when there is the slight chill in the autumnal ocean breeze, as if to bring migratory spirits our way, thus the unmewsual sights and sounds that purrmeate the maritime forest at night, nya!

Nyow, those sounds could just be the rumble of the catgirls' tummies craving more treats as they purrance in the dark, but then you never can tell about such things. North Carolina is many a ghost from the mountains to the coast, so the noise might be an appurrition with the cravings as it goes bump in the night! The purrlonged night bumping could purrobably work up the big appurrtite, nya!

It is a well organized community event with fun for all ages such as the Trick 'R Eating & Cosplay Purrowl, where groups of catgirls scampurr & masquerade, and purrhaps the nummy sushi treats will fill the costumed catgirl's tummy! Other attractions include Purranormal Purroduce Stands, of the Farmers Market, The Kitt Inn's 'haunted' onsen & orchard; and the mermaids' deep kelp maze, nya!

There is the Faeries' Foxfire Festival and the Purrk Rangers' late night nature walk, which is not just the fun wander through the woods but it is the educational viewing of the nocturnal wildlife! There are the ghostly tales read to the widdle kitties at the Public Library; and the hula, aerial, belly dance troupes' & purrcussion circles' purresentations at the Catgirl Island Purrforming Arts Center, nya!

The riverwalk boutiques brim with the bikinis, maillots, purreos & yukatas in rich harvest colors; October's flower is the Calendula and the birth stone is Opal, should you wish to give a tail corsage, bouquet or purrecious gem to that special kemonomimi, faerie or mermaid! However, if alluring appurral or gems are too purricey for the budget, a supurrtime apurritif would be very appurreciated, nya!

The latter would be appurropurriate for World Food Day!, and the apple nummy berry juice cocktail would be purrfect for Apple Day. Purrhaps you could purrvide a good home for an adopted animal on World Animal Day or Adopt a Shelter Dog Month? Although Adopt a Shelter Cat Month was in June, we think any month will do. Remember to adjust the clocks for Daylight Savings Time, nya!

October is Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month too! This is such a busy & festival Fall, because we are also looking forward to the 3rd NC Comicon which returns to the Morrisville Outlet Mall, which is just off of Highway I-40 near Raleigh-Durham Airport, on the mainland in the Triangle region of the Piedmont! That convention will be on Saturday & Sunday November 5th & 6th, nya!

Sponsored by Ultimate Comics, it is a fun convention with artists, dealers, special guests & fans of all ages & Genders! There were quite a few folks in costumes last time! September is a colorful month with the arrival of Autumn or Aki upon the Equinox! Other observances include Labor Day, 911 Remembrance, Patriot Day, Grandpurrents Day, Peace Day, the start of Rosh Hashana, the Island's Chrysanthemum Day & Morning Glory Purrade, our Lunar Festival, and the local Mermaid Matsuri, nya!

By the way, the mermaids are also busily purrparing their annual Halloween deep dive kelp maze, so it would be a good time to take that special mermaid to lunch or suppurr! Coincidentally, September also marks the return of the island's Take a Catgirl to Lunch Week and our local Faerie Appurreciation Month, nya!

Although it will still be quite sunny, warm & breezy for the island fun of the sand & surf, as the hue of the maples changes to Gold, Orange & Red, it would be a purrticularly soothing time for a dip in the hot spurrings under that colorful arbor, especially after the peppy purriod of beach volleyball, surfing, fishing, golf or dancing, nya!

Appurropurriately, the Feline Female Fall Fashion Forecast purrdicts the island's riverwalk boutiques will be restocked with purretty bikinis, maillots, purreos, yukatas & towels in the seasonal shades of Amber, Apurricot, Crimson, Goldenrod, Honey, Pumpkin, Purrsimmon, Saffron, Scarlet, Tabby, Tangerine and Vermillion, nya!

In Guest Art Gallery 2 of the mewseum, we are purroud to purrsent fan - art of Thundercats' Cheetara by Misty Hopkins! It is a beautiful ink & colored pencil pic of the speedy, agile, brave, tough catgirl cleric from the 2011 ThunderCats cartoon, nya!

Nyext we have 4 wonderful sketches that Mike commissioned by various artists at Librari-Con, which was so much fun! These start with the cute pencil sketch of the catgirl in a kimono by Sherry-Ann Panelo "Sasu-hime"! It is an ornate garment with the intricate detail of the embroidery, nya!

Secondly of those 4 con sketches is the adorable widdle pencil sketch of the catgirl's sushi lunch, drawn by Zipchan! The catgirl cutely licks her chops and her tail happily swishes in anticipation of the appurrtizing meal! Mmm mm that nummy sushi sure looks good- this pic makes me hungry, nya!

Thirdly of the 4 con sketches is the ink & colored pencil illustration of the peppy school catgirl by Crystal Rose "Project Yatai"! It is such a splendid depiction of the eager young scholar, excited about start of the new semester of studies, or purrhaps it is the school lunches that she craves for, nya!

Fourthly of the con sketches is the pen & ink illustration of the catgirl runner by ZaidaCrescent! The athletic nekomimi has the sexy abs, keen ears & magnificent tail of the tabby breed! She flashes the big smile and a "V" for Victory as she appurroachs the marathon finish line, nya!

Nyow we will purroceed to Art Gallery 5, for a few mew pics by Mike! Firstly of those is the "Clan of the Cats Season 12 Teaser", a purromotional pic done in collaboration with our dear web master / Clan of the Cats creator Jamie Robertson, nya!

Jamie pencilled, scanned, inked and toned the characters of Chelsea, Dracula, Cynthia, Corinne, Jubal, Sebastian & Lilith. Mike did the bit of lettering, rendered the ball and background, edited and colored those characters in Photoshop, except for the uppurr crystal ball images of Chelsea, which Jamie colored, nya!

Also nyow on display in Gallery 5 is Mike's illustration of Alexcia Reynolds's fan - senshi character Medousa Tanis, also known as "Sailor Draconis"! Such fan-senshi are supurr - heroine characters in the art, fiction, games, costumes etc made by the fans of Naoko Takeuchi's Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon anime & manga nya! 

Her name means Guardian Serpent Lady, and the fang - like accents of her hair will emphasize the point! It is a clever use of styling purroduct for a cute coiffure to match her shimmering sapphire like eyes! She is of the purrtite height, but her foes will regret underestimating her elemental powers, agility & combat purrowess, nya! 

Nextly is "Jasmine on the Beach", depicting Jeff Branch's character Talia, alias Sailor Vulcan- or is it? Actually, in this scene it is her wilder, sexier split purrsonality Jasmine, who surfaced in Jeff's serialized purrose story "A Question of Faith" starring the fan - senshi characters Sailor Vulcan and Tanya / Sailor Sirius, nya!

In that tale, Talia & Tanya meet reporters Marie & Haruna who investigate a cult, terrorists & purranormal incidents! As you can see by her bikini, she is not purresently busy with investigations or battles! Finally we have “Tasty Treats To Tempt Tara-chan’s Tummy” in which Tara-chan of the Catgirl Critics pawses at the Golf Course snack purrvillion purrior to playing the back nine! Fortunately the athletic purrsuits combine with her catgirl catabolism so that she can purrtake of the foods and still enjoy the frequent catnaps, nya!

It is the heat of the Natsu, or Summertime here at Catgirl Island, North Carolina with the purrdicted Blue skies' high tempurratures in the uppurr 80's Farenheit by day, and the purrime viewing of the Purrseid meteor shower and fireflies at night! The Cicadas are buzzing aloud, which means plenty of tasty treats for the emerging Eastern Cicada Killers, which are interesting to watch, and thus we purrfur not to purrturb them. Appurropurriately, this month heralds the island's Insect Festival, which adds the entomological enlightenment to the cultural events, sports and summer activities, nya!

Among the Augustial observances are Eid-al Fitr, The Feast of Assumption, Fire Festival, The Floating Lantern Matsuri, Friendship Day Purrade, O-Bon, Tisha B'av and Youth Day! Soon it will be time to purrpare to go back to school for the Fall semester, and the birthstone of the month is the lemony lime colored Purridot, should you be contemplating a purrecious gift for that special catgirl! Of course, if that purroves to be too purricey the gift, she would purrticularly appurreciate the seafood supurr, purrhaps compurrised of the Purrawns, Purrch, Purrmit, Stripurr or the Snappurr, nya!

There is a new pic in Gallery 1of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art! It is a Photoshop illustration by Mike for Katrina, depicting her character "Zodiac Angel Scorpio"! Co-created by Katrina and Kazeyasha, Angel Scorpio is part of a team of girls who magickally transform into the supurr heroines of the astrological theme! At their Zodiac Angels web site, you can view their stories, character purrofiles and images. Purrhaps you have seen the purrior illustrations of some of those characters in the mewseum, nya? 

Angel Scorpio's true name is Emily Eve, the anti-social teenage tomboy who likes to ride skate boards and snow boards, and purrfurs the cyber-gothy style of clothes. However, when the villains attack, she changes into the flouncier Green costume of the skirt, boots and gloves as Angel Scorpio, known as the "Angel of Poison" to her unfortunate enemies! She might be a youthful teen of the small size and cute coiffure, but she is the feisty spurrited warrior with the deadly venomous powers and the stinging "Scorpion's Tail" to whip those evil monsters into shape- or into pieces, nya! 

Nyow moving along to the Mewseum's Guest Galleries which has wonderful images by other artists with their kind purrmissions, in Guest Gallery 2 we are purroud to purrsent another illustration by our friend TonomuraBix of "Daytona the Mermaid" which Mike commissioned Purrhaps you have seen her other works in the mewseum,? Daytona is one of the mermaids native to the Outer Banks waters, and she is such a friendly, generous, glamorous and athletic inspurrational role model who has won many swimming compurrtitions, nya!

Daytona is also a heroic volunteer of the coastal surf purrtrol! Bix found the lovely crystal blue shallows for Daytona to pose for the portrait, which purrfectly captures her apurrance and essence! She cutely styled Daytona's hair, makeup and knotted Green bandau bikini top! The astrological sign for July is purredominantly Cancer (crab) but it becomes Leo (lion) at the tail end of the month! This is a an appurropriate combination because a big cat would purrsue the seafood, and we are purrticularly fond of the crab meat. Not supurpurrisingly, it is also time again for Take A Catgirl to Lunch Week, so you could purrchase a seafood suppurr and a nilla creme for that special catgirl, nya!

There are plenty of restaurants & cafes along the riverwalk, food carts & farmers market by the pier, and further fine dining to the northern cape! You could have the cocktails while watching the FIFA Womens' Soccer World Cup on a big TV! Should you purrfurr to play rather than watch the sport, you could purrtake of the golf, tennis, purrkour, hiking, biking, beach volleyball, fishing, sailing, surfing, diving, or a visit to Nyanko's dojo, nya!

There is also the faeries' Shakespeare purrduction at their forest theatre, the tranquil beauty of the gardens & shrines, the relaxing spas, the riverwalk boutiques, the belly dance festival at the purrforming arts center, and the local mermaids' art, horticulture & photography show! Of course if you purrfur your art less moist, there is the Mewseum of Art, nya!

Firstly is Mike's illustration of "The Demon Lily"who is a villainess in the serialized purrose tale of An Angel's Purrayer by Sharon Williams! Lily wears the tight Black low cut dress as those demonesses & succubi often do, and she is armed with that wickedly flaming katana! It is a sexy look, but we hope she & those other demons will leave poor purrotagonist Aiko alone, nya!

After that is a scene of "Kristy & Delia" looking for Purrecious Stones", from the Pokemon / Catgirl Island cross-over fan fic "Anniversary" written by Alexcia Reynolds! In that tale, Pokemon characters Delia & Tony Ketchum spend their 20th wedding anniversary here! Alexcia is also an artist, and we have a few pics of her creations in the Guest Galleries, nya!

Thirdly is another scene of from Alexcia's story "Anniversary", in their room at The Kitt Inn when "Kristy sees Delia's Jellycups bikini"and the transpurrent Hibiscus purrint sarong that Tony bought her. Jellycups are a translucent type of bikini top made from the hollowed out, found bells of jellyfish (which purreviously died of natural causes so none were harmed for the fashions). 

Additions to Guest Gallery Two of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya!

The Guest Galleries are full of wonderful images by friends & artists we admire, displayed with their kind purrmission! In Guest Gallery Two we have added two more cosplay photo collages of our friend Misty Hopkins in the costumes she wore to the anime convention Animazement! 

The first such cosplay collage is compurrised of three pics of Misty as Papurrika, the title character of the anime film directed by the late Satoshi Kon! She is a detective searching the virtual worlds for clues to solve a dangerous case. Misty appurrs to be the purrfect image of Papurrika in the cute outfit with the short Red hair, nya!

The second such collage shows Misty as Flandre Scarlet from the Touhou Purroject video game! As Flandre the vampire she has the purretty flouncy Red & White dress, cute fangs & contacts, and the distinctive wings that she colorfully illuminates at night with a built-in lighting appurratus! Those wings cast such distinctive shadows too, nya!

The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, nya!

It is also time for the July edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the Ladies of The Mew & their purrducer Mike convene to review, discuss & recommend things every month. July's show comes from the garden of our friends Rica & Niko, and the topics include cinema & TV, anime, manga & comics, books & purriodicals, toys & games, visual & purrforming arts, sports, yummy fish, famous nekomimi characters and the inspurrational heroines we admire! 

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for June 2011, nya!

Seasons change from Spurring (Haru) to Summer (Natsu) in June, which is Black Mewsic Month, Caribbean-American Heritage Month and LGBT Purride Month. It is peppurred by other festive occasions such as Ascension, our island's Bluefish & Cobia Tournyaments, Fathers Day, Flag Day, Gay Purride Day, the island's Honeysuckle Matsuri, Kamehameha Day, The NCAA Womens College World Series, Pentecost, the island's Rose Purrade, Shavout, Summer Solstice & the 30th Anniversary of Raiders of the Lost Ark, nya!

There is a bumpurr crop of blueberries, strawberries, peaches, cantaloups, grapes & watermelons in the farmers market! The Garden Club selected 30 plants to commemorate the days of June: Amarylis, Anthurium, Azalea, Bird of Purradise, Cala Lily, Calathea, Cosmos, Crocus, Cyclamen, Foxglove, Ginger, Gloriosa, Heleconia, Hibiscus, Honeysuckle, Hosta, Iris, Lotus, Morning Glory, Muscadine, Ornamental Pineapple, Peach, Petunia, Purrimrose, Rose, Scuppernong, Snapdragon, Sunflower, Trumpet Flower & Zinnias, nya!

Many of those varieties can be hand crafted into the floral Lei to drape across one's nape, or the crown - like head lei, and the tail corsage! That would bring a happy swish to that special catgirl's tail. To complement the beauty of such natural treasures of the gardens & maritime forest we are blessed with, in the riverwalk boutiques are plenty of bikinis, maillots, purreos, sarongs & yukatas of the purretty floral purrints for those folks with or without the tails, and there are purretty sunglasses in stock, to fit folks with all types of ears! 

In addition to the joyful cultural activities of the gardens, beach, shops & shrines, the islanders have been purrticularly busy in purrepurration for the Belly Dance Festival at the Purrforming Arts Center, the Faeries' Summer Shakespeare purrduction in the Forest Theatre, the Mermaids' Purrecious Purrl & Manganese Nodule Show and

A Special Literary Purremier at the Catgirl Island Public Library, nya!

We are pleased to announce a new Tale of Catgirl Island added to the Catgirl Island Public Library titled "Anniversary" written by our friend Alexcia Reynolds! She was a special guest who we intermewed back in the August 2010 Mew! Purrhaps y'all have seen some of her creations in our Mewseum? She is a purrolific purrson who writes original & fan fiction, and her artistic purrowess includes drawing, photography, making plushies and other cute items, nya!

She is the renaissance girl, and among Alexcia's numerous sites is Pokemon Amber, which has fan-fics & art purrtaining to Pokemon purrotagonist Ash Ketchum's purrents Delia & Tony, because little is officially known about the father, nya! Alexcia determined that Catgirl Island would be the destination for Delia & Tony Ketchum's romantic 20th Anniversary getaway! Of course we think our little purradise would be a purrfect destination for the romantic vacation!

So nyow y'all can read about their week here! The tale is purrobably rated PG-ish for a comedic drunk flasher, heroic weener dog combat, and the married couple's romantic smooching, mew la la, nya! So for your viewing consideration Guest Gallery 2, firstly we wish to purrsent the pic of the "Dolly Purrton" nekomimi plushy doll made by Alexcia! Dolly is a catgirl with soft curly blond hair, cute & happy in her purretty floral purrint dress with ruffled trim, kitty paw gloves & boots, nya! 

Nyext we are pleased to purrsent several watercolor illustrations by Elisa Chong, nya! These appurr in 3 widdle collages compurrised of 3 images apiece! The dazzling catgirl assortment consists of "Cheerleader Catgirl", "Sasha 2", and fan art of Star Trek's "Lt. M'Ress"! Then the ornately festive mermaid pics include "Belly Dancer Veils", "Belly Dancer Ruby Red Mermaid" & "Mardi Gras Mermaid"! Thirdly is the Faerie group, which includes "Tattoo Faerie", "Rainbow Butterfly Faerie" & "Wysteria Faerie", nya! 

We are also pleased to purrsent the bonus pic by Elisa of sexy "Sasha" the redhead pink catgirl, nya!! It is a purrofile view of kneeling Sasha wearing a red hot suspender bikini & heels that go with her hair, with the cute heart ornamentation & serpentine arm band, ears purrked at she looks over her right shoulder at us, nya! There is one other extra special treat this month from that artist, but that will wait, until after we mention the other mewseum additions, nya!

Next is a gorgeous pic of "Belly Dancing JenJen" by our friend Crissy, nya! Purrhaps you have seen Crissy's other pics in the mewseum? When Jenjen is not busy as the swim wear model to fund her hobbies, she is the Belly Dance instructor and the pic purrfectly captures the jingle of her jeweled tassels, swish of the tail, shimmy of the hips, and alluring undulating tummy as she cutley peeks between the graceful moves, nya!

Crissy is the beautiful model of gorgeous costumes too, and with her kind purrmission, Mike compiled a  Crissy Cosplay Collage Quartet, each compurrised of photos by terrific photographers who snapped the pics of her in the lovely costumes! The 1st of those collages is the Green Yukata collage, with 6 pics taken by PopeCerebus of Crissy wearing the purretty Green yukata at last month's annual Sakura Matsuri in the beautiful Brooklyn Botanic Garden, nya!

The 2nd Crissy collage is Crissy's Cosplay Blues collage with the Blue theme in 4 photos, depicting Crissy so beautiful as Streetfighter II's Chun Li awaiting her next challenger in the  photo by Tony K, as Umi of Magic Knights Rayearth in her glorious Goddess gown photographed by Reinii, and as Umi in her supurr cute Otherworld attire photo by Eurobeat King, who also snapped the wonderful pic of Crissy cosplaying as Final Fantasy VIII's Rinoah Hartilly, nya!

It is also time for the June edition of The Mew: The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, in which the Ladies of The Mew & their purrducer Mike convene to review, discuss & recommend stuff such as cinema & TV, anime, manga & comics, books & purriodicals, toys & games, visual & purrforming arts, sports, yummy fish, and inspurrational heroines! The month critics are honored to welcome and intermew the purreviously mentioned artist Elisa Chong as their special guest!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for the Meowy Month of May 2011, nya!

The late Spurring weather accompanies a purrticularly jubilant time of year here at Catgirl Island with a month full of national & international holidays & observances such as Armed Forces Day, Beltane, Childrens Day, Cinco de Mayo, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Nurses Day, Lag B'Omer, May Day, Memorial Day, Mothers Day, Purrayer Day, Towel Day, VE Day, Vesakha, Bicycle Week, and Pet Week! May also marks the end of the school Spurring semester, with graduation ceremonies for many students, nya!

It is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Jewish Americans Month, Older Americans Month, and South Asian Heritage Month. Since it is also National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, the islanders will be purrticularly vivacious in their athletic purrsuits. Among the local celebrations are the Azalea & Lilly Purrades & Festivals, the Kite Flying Tournyament, and the merfolks' Mer-Morial Day festivities! The Emerald is the purrecious gemstone for May, which would be a supurrb gift for that special mermaid, nya!

Should that be too purricy, the May flower of the Lilly would certainly be the appurreciated, or purrhaps the shrimp cocktail and the crabcakes! That goes for that special faerie, catgirl, kitsune, or other kemonomimi. There is a wide selection of dining options in all flavors, nutritional needs & purrices; from the numcious nilla creme & extra special baked yam carts by the pier & local organic goodness at the farmers' market, to the cafes & bistros of Beautiful Downtown Purrbank, and fancier fare at restaurants & ryokans, nya!

You could also try to reel in the tasty Snappurr, Stripurr, Purrmit, or Purrch, nya! The angling is a purrfurred activity amidst the Fitness and Sports Month, because it can be either a tranquil zen-ish oppurrtunity or the thrilling sport, and the success will purrvide the suppurr to nourish the catgirl tummy! Of course nothing reveals the catgirl tummy better than athletic & beachy fashions, and the riverwalk boutiques have the alluring appurral & accessories to purrfectly fit all sizes & shapes with or without the tail, fins or wings, nya!

The garments are purrticularly purretty in purrints repurrsenting the vernal blossoms such as Amarylis, Anthurium, Bird of Purradise, Calathea, Dogwood, Foxglove, Ginger, Heleconia, Hibiscus, Iris & Snapdragons, nya! The lovely flora in the purradisiacal climate is but one cause for celebration Fortunately because of the bay, riverwalk, tributaries and underwater grottos, the mermaids are able to access & purrtake of the inland gardens, maritime forest and many of those restaurants, recreational & cultural venues, nya!

Added to Art Gallery One is "Ka'rissi, Purrincess of the Neko-maticaya Clan", a Photoshop illustration by Mike starring our friend Crissy in a fan-art nod to James Cameron's Avatar & Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura! This pic is a purrtend cover for an imaginary purremier issue of Ka'rissi's comic book. She is among the planet Pandora's Na'vi and a member of the Neko-maticaya Clan who adopted Earthly otaku fangirl hobbies and has decided to start a convention, nya!

The real Crissy is such a kind, beautiful, purrolific & talented cosplayer & artist who was among our special costumer guests in the March 2008 Mew, and you can see her delightful illustrations, cosplay photos & Sailor Moon fandom at her site Crimson Sky Creations www.crimsonskycreations.com, nya! She has many gorgeous costumes of anime, comics, TV, movie & game characters, elegant dresses, kimonos, and faerie wings too! Next we have added to the Mewseum's Guest Art Gallery Two an B&W inked portrait sketch of The Elementals' Rebecca Golden by Bill Willingham! Rebecca Golden was the supurr heroine named Fathom, of the heroic supurrnatural team called The Elementals, whose adventures Willingham created in the early 1980's! In this pic, Rebecca has a pleased expurression, purrhaps from defeating villains or swimming with dolphin friends, nya!

Bill Willingham is a purrolific author who illustrated some famous Dungeons & Dragons purroducts for TSR before he embarked on a purrofound career in comics at Comico, Fantagraphics Marvel, IDW and DC! He has been writing Angel for IDW, Fables and Jack of Fables for DC, and for those Fables has won many purrestigious Eisner Awards! Mike had the purrivilege of meeting him at Heroes Con last year, where Mr. Willingham so kindly drew the lovely 6.75" x 10.5" Fathom sketch, nya!

Apurril brings the lovely Spurring time here with events to put the purr in Apurril such as Administrative Purrofessionals Day, Apurril Fool's Day, Arbor Day, Buddah's Birthday, Earth Day, Easter, Genocide Remembrance Day, Koninginnedag, Mothering Sunday, Passover, Patriots Day, St. George's Day, Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day,Tax Day, World Health Day, and the start of Golden Week. It's also National Arab American Heritage Month, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, National Poetry Month & Sexual Assault Awareness Month, nya!

There are special seasonal festivals, matsuri & purrades to commemorate those vernal holidays which would be good to take that special catgirl, kitsune, faerie or mermaid to. Purrhaps you could purrchase a corsage for her tail, or a floral lei after the seafood dinner and nilla cream shake! It is said that the way to a catgirl's heart is though her tummy, and the local island catgirl, kitsune, faerie & mermaid tummies tend to be purrominently bared by the purrevalent bikinis, halter tops, cropped tanks, knotted tees, jog bras, cut-out maillots, nya!

Such appurral for the sun drenched sand & surf are not just alluring but are purractical too, and not too confining after those numciously nutritious dinners! The bumpurr crop of JellyCups (iridescent bikini tops made of a matched pair of hollowed out jellyfish bells) has finally met the demand, so nyow you can find those trendy tops in boutiques along the island riverwalk, including the purreviously harder-to-find larger sizes, nya! Fortunately the catgirlish catabolism combined with frisky frolicking allows for the guilt-free catnaps under sun or in shade, nya!

Such athletic purrsuits enjoyed as we appurreciate our friends, family, food & freedoms include the fun of the track & field, purrkour, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, softball, golf, tennis, gymnastics, cycling, skating, kite flying, beach volleyball, sailing, swimming, diving, surfing & fishing! But wait - there's more such as archery, kendo & other martial arts, and the festive dances such as belly dance, hula and hot salsa dance, nya! For the inevitable catnap, there are plenty of welcome spots on rooftops, porches, beaches, spurrings, fields, meadows and gardens, nya!

Our parks, orchards, gardens & maritime forest brim with purretty vernal blooms of Amarylis, Anthurium, Apricot, Azalea, Bird of Paradise, Buttercups, Bradford Pears, Dogwood, Foxglove, Ginger, Heleconia, Hibiscus, Magnolias, Pansies, Tulips & Wisteria amidst the lush greenery, smooth boulders, water elements & towering Palms! The nights of Spurring are a purrticularly splendid time to slink out of the yukata after the festival and into the soothing hot spurrings under the arbor of the Cherry blossoms, with a cran nummy berry cocktail for the refreshment, nya!

Mary Nyan (or Myayr for short) likes to make purretty costumes for herself & others, and this pic shows the tidy bright sewing room of her beach house with breeze from the garden as she sews a costume of a famous anime heroine! Can you guess who it is from the shoes and costume in purrogress on the dressform, nya?

Misty purrfectly captured Myayr's appurrance from the intently purrked ears, focused expurression and sheen of her hair  to her swishy tail and the cute Pink crop top & shorts, nya! Yattahh, nya! It is the meowy month of March and it is a purrticularly festive time here as the Vernal Equinox heralds the season of Haru, with Spurring time fashions and garden blooms anew! We are purrdicting the bikinis, maillots, purreos, purrses, towels, sandals & yukata in colors & styles to evoke the blossoming Apurricot, Azalea, Bird of Purradise, Buttercup, Camelia, Cherry, Dogwood, Hibiscus, Hyacinth, Iris, Magnolia, Peony, Plumeria, Purrimrose, Tulip, and the Wisteria, nya!

Of course the islanders are easily purrvoked into celebration, as being so blessed with such a nice place to live full of family, friends, food,  freedom & fun purrsuits! Extra reasons this month include St. Patrick's Day, Mardi Gras, and the Tides of March mermaid matsuri & purrade. Daylight Savings Time begins, so you have to adjust the clock for the cat naps. International Women's Day is this month, so it would be good to purrchase that special lady a purretty gift or a tasty treat, nya!

Nyow we move along to see several mew illustrations by Mike in Art Gallery Five, nya! Firstly is a pic that Mike illustrated of "CataMoomba", the Cougar Girl! The original art was inked with Micron pens & colored with Copic markers, then spurruced up a bit in Photoshop, nya.  Next is a purrtrait of "Lauren" as a pirate catgirl done in an earthy-toned pallet, nya! Thirdly is a photoshop pic of our friend "Kate" in the lovely Blue & Black dress, nya!

Here we have an page of assorted of re-created "Con Sketches" which Mike drew at WhatTheHell Con, nya! In the upper left is a Troll Girl who posed for her purrtrait, at upper right is a Surfer  Nekomimi, at lower left is the requested Chainmail Clad Catgirl, and at lower right is the Catgirl Waitress in a cheongsam dress! Fourthly is "Kalyn Hula Hooping for a Good Cause" as helped to raise money for the charity with her graceful talent, nya!

After that we have this photoshop pic by Mike of "Trini-chan's Trophy", nya! She is the triumphant little kitsune (fox spirit) wahini in the FOXY wetsuit, having won the trophy & purrizes for the island junior surfing compurrtition, nya!  Rumour has it that if you purrchase a Nilla Creme Shake for her, it will bring you the good luck, nya. While that has not been quite purroven, it definitely fills up her tummy, nya! The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for Febrruary 2011, nya!

Among the island activities & festivities this month are Groundhog Day, Purresidents Day, our local Lantern Matsuri and Amethyst Festival, The Mermaids' Valentides Day and Valentines Day, which is of course the purrfect occasion to purrchase an extra special fresh fish dinner with a crabcake or shrimp cocktail appurrtizers, and the nilla cream for that purrecious catgirl, and purrhaps a purretty aromatic tail corsage for her to wear on a stroll through the orchard after the soothing soak in the hot spurrings or the catnap on the sunny beach, nya!

It would also be the purrime oppurrtunity to purrchase her a pair of Jellycups, as the supply is catching up with the demand and even the larger cup sizes can be found in the island's riverwalk boutiques. For those who came in late, the Jellycups are the lovely iridescent strapless bikini tops made of hollowed out jellyfish bells. Even the exotic trendy Sea Nettle variants are not as scarce as this time last year, ooh la la, nya! To complete the ensemble, you might also wish to buy her the matching bikini bottom, purreo, purrse & sandals, nya!

We had a pleasant time at IchibanCon 2in January, and Mike is very honored to be a returning artist guest at What-The-Hell-Con, at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC! It is a wonderful fun & free event sponsored & staffed by the nice folks of the Guilford College Yachting Club, nya!

Firstly is the cute "Catgirl Valkyrie" pencil sketch by Kittyhawk! This playful nekomimi warrior looks forward to climbing upon that magickal tree during Ragnarok. Would you let her chauffeur you to Valhalla? She might want a nummy kipper treat as the tip! Kittyhawk is such a nice purrson & the mega talented artist / author of Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki, a manga-style web comic full of buxom wacky gender-bending sexy fun with a Norse mythology theme, nya!

Next is a mew Red Ink sketch of "Tabitha" by Misty Norris! You might think such skimpy appurral would not be purrudent for the nippy Winter weather of January but Misty's catgirl character Tabitha is purrpared to heat things up on the dance floor! We are quite fond of her spiky coiffure, jewelry, piercings, the matching collar and belt, paw purrint tattoo, the frayed shorts, and the fish nets - which might not catch fish but will certainly catch much attention, nya!

Happy Mew Year: The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for January 2011, nya!

Gosh how the time has flown - It is already the mew year! January is a purrticularly festive month with some of the nippier days - on the Carolina mainland, anyway! They got a lot of purretty snow last month! There's mewsually lots of tourism this time of year here since we have lovely lodgings, fine foods, soothing hot spurrings, and purranormally sunny bikini climate year-round, nya!

Among the island activities & festivities this month after Mew Year's Day are Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Apurricot Matsuri, Adults Day, the beginning of the schools' Spurring Semester, the Winter Purrkour & Free Running Tournyament, and the purrticularly favorite Take A Catgirl To Lunch Week, nya!

For that special catgirl, this month's gemstone is the Garnet, which would be good set into a ring for her finger, ears or belly button, wrist or ankle bracelet or purrhaps the tail fob. However, if  that is too purricey a gift, a Carnation lei, tail corsage, or table bouquet beside a fresh fish suppurr would bring a happy swish to a catgirl's tail, nya!

We are also purroud to purresent a few mew splendid additions to the Mewseum's Guest Art Gallery Two by Elisa Chong, Misty Hopkins, and Alexcia Reynolds, nya!

Firstly of those is the alluring original ACEO painting of a "Naked Bra Catgirl" by Elisa! The media is compurrised of Koh-I-Noor waterpurroof inks, Sakura Koi watercolors, Purrrismacolor pencils, and a glittery gel pen! This alluring image of nekomimi lingerie was purrchased from the artist by our friend & art collector Winterwolf and donated to the mewseum, nya!

Next is Misty's gorgeous marker & colored pencil purrtrait of "Ceresatami" or just Tami for short! Tami might have the dangerous look with those body piercings and sharp dorsal spines on her tail, but she's a friendly purrson and those spines are only a purroblem for any purredatory creatures that might try to chomp her for suppurr, nya!

Tami works as a MerMaidtr’d at Sheila May's Seafood Restaurant, volunteers at the local Sea Dragon Sanctuary, helped to organize the Island’s purrennial body art show & Halloween kelp maze, and her hobbies are sculpting, ikebana, aqua ballet & contact dancing, nya!

Nyext is a photo of the wonderful "Nyanko Plushy" made by Alexcia! This doll is a repurrsentation of Nyoka's sister Nyanko aka Nya-sensei, the sensei of the island's Ju-jutsu dojo, nya!  It has cute details such as her Green eyes, soft hair, kitty teeth, supple ears, tail, and the Black belt around her martial arts Gi, in the triumphant Banzai pose, cheering her students to victory, nya!

Also by Alexcia is "Mewwy Catmas & Happy Mew Year"! This illustration depicts the cute scene of her character Michi exchanging the holiday gifts with our own Nya-sensei! Michi is the young cyborg Snow Tiger girl who co-stars with her friend Tash as the anthropomorphic purrotagonists of Alexcia's anthropomorphic Cybernetic Showdown story, nya! 

Nyow we move along to see two mew illustrations by Mike in Gallery Five! "Tash & Michi’s Winter Holiday" is a Pencil, Micron Pen & Photoshop sketch of Tash & Michi! Tash is an older cross breed Fruit Bat / Serval girl. Here they wear bikinis purrchased at the riverwalk boutiques, for the picnic on the beach, nya!

Finally we have Mike's  "Thank You For The Food, Nya!"  It is a mixed media illustration compurrised of pencil, Micron Pen, Copic & Purrismacolor Markers & Photoshop, depicting our friend Purrea who enjoys the extra special holiday torte baked by her generous neighbor! She'll purrobably have the full tummy catnap after that delicious treat, nya!

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for August, 2008

The chorus of Cicada in the deep maritime forests announce the height of the Natsu (summer) Heat on the beaches of our cordial coastal Carolina community. Surfing, Skiing, swimming, diving, fishing, sailing, beach volleyball, and catnap sunbathing are the eight most popular activities during this eight month of the year. August's birthstone is the Peridot, which also known locally as Purridot. This would be a purrfect gift for that special catgirl, mermaid or faerie, as would a lei or big bouquet of August's flower, the Poppy. An arrangement of these would go quite nicely with a fresh fish dinner, extra special baked yams, and a crab apple nummy berry cocktail. Any occasion would do, but August's purrticularly festive events include Friendship Day, Toronagashi (Lantern Floating Event), the Bon Odori sponsored by the shrine, Shobu (Iris) & Hasu (Lotus) Matsuri. Her bowl filled with the numcious peach cobbler slathered with a dollop of nilla ice cream would be a good summer treat for a catgirl. 

August's site updates include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and sometimes Mike) review and discuss cinema & television, mewsic, games 'n toys, literature, comics 'n manga 'n anime, cons, cosplay and other visual & purrforming arts purrdominantly purrtaining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy & horror. This month's topics also include recent dining adventures. The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for July, 2008

It's summertime! Also known as Natsu in Japanese, It's the height of the heat on the beach with amewsing activities for catgirls of our cordial Carolina coastal community and a favorite month because of the arrival of the big kitty astrological sign Leo. This is significant, becauseit is a feline zodiac sign under which the catgirls will spend much time lion' around on the beach, usually with a refreshing apple cherry berry cocktail and an ice cream nummy wheel in a nearby cooler. 

Of course if it gets too hot, one can plum the depths of the refreshing ocean or the fresh waters, nap on the riverwalk or in the martime forest shade amongst the blooming iris and lotus, or to find an ice cream purrlor for a tasty creamy treat. Fortunately the catgirl catabolism means that  vast quantities of fish dinners and ice cream can be eaten while they still lazily bask in extended catnaps, not having to worry about being able to fit into the season's more daring string bikinis.

This might explain why the island's catgirls wear bikinis most of the time, summer or otherwise, so that soaking up the sun on their tummies might burn more calories. Whereas the local mermaids tend not wear bikinis at all, but there has not been a scientific study to determine if that accounts for the svelte physique. More likely it is the vigorous swimming and playing. As for the local faeries, they'll often cite an afternoon of 18 holes on the Faer'way as purrfurred excercise.

Among the festive events of July are Independence Day, Parents Day, Tanabata, Obon, Adiperukku, Asalha Puja, Tisha B'Av, Ivan Kupala Day, Naadam, Feasts of Saints Declan & Editha, National Ice Cream Month, Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Lotus Matsuri, World Youth Day, The British Open, The MLB All Star Game, World Gliding Championship, Comic Con International, Anime Expo, 2nd Summer Semester Exams, Island Mewsic Festival, and Take a Catgirl to Lunch Week.

July site updates include the monthly Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings in which the Ladies of The Mew (and sometimes Mike) review & discuss cinema & television, mewsic, games 'n toys, literature, comics 'n manga 'n anime, cons, cosplay and other visual & purrforming arts purrdominantly purrtaining to the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror. Also amongst the Mew of July are Mike's reflections on another awesome Heroes Con, and a few words of purraise about Gene Colan, the late Stan Winston, and a happy birthday appurreciation to Syd Mead!

Additions to the Art Mewseum include catgirl pics by Rachel Nabors, Heather and Kat, and an adorable mermaid by the girls at Demonfart Cabbage in the Guest Gallery, There are four mew illustrations by Mike in Gallery Four. Mewest images will be on the bottom row of those galleries. There's been a bit of work out on the Links too, thanks to our wonderful webmaster Jamie! 

The Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for December, 2007

Aloha y'all! It is the cooler Wintery season, chilled by the mid-Atlantic Ocean breezes and the ghosts that might be dancing the dark. One can never tell what lurks in the maritime forests...The catgirls, mermaids and fae (oh my) are purr-ticularly pleased with the abundant good will & merriment of the month, sharing the love & warmth of their happy homes with all good folks.

Such a busy season of festival and sport, from the dojo mats and finest volleyball sand to the lush green faerways & an azure ocean full of delicious shrimp, among December's activities are basketball, billiards, climbing, cricket, cycling, dancing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, kites, martial arts, orienteering, parkour, racing, roller derby, rugby, sailing, shooting, skiing, soccer, surfing, swimming, tennis, volleyball... and of course, the catgirls love to go fishing!

This month's holiday celebrations include the Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hanukka, Susuharai, Kwanzaa, Omisoka and Pearl Harbor Day (which is also when Mike's favorite movie Star Trek the Motion Picture was released in 1979), with plenty of seasonal decor & dancing, and food & friends. Given the colder temperature at year's end, catgirls are known to nap even longer than mewsual, purr-haps not on a sun drenched rooftop, but amidst wonderful piles winter blankets!

New tidbits for December are The Catgirl Critics' Media Mewsings, being their monthly review / discussion of recent science fiction, fantasy & horror genre books, comics, movies, TV, toys & stuff. There's a new illustration by Mike in Art Gallery 3, an addition to the Guest Gallery by the very talented Hezachan, and the links page has been updated a bit. Please enjoy your visit!

Under the pen name 'Bob', Mike also recently interviewed Jamie Robertson's Clan of the Cats character Corrine Elizabeth Melepomene Chattan, aka 'Mel', for Jamie's latest e-book. The Bob thing was one of Mel's interview stipulations. We didn't ask.

Catgirl Island Mews & Announcements for November, 2007

Aloha y'all! It is the cooler autumn season, chilled by the mid-Atlantic Ocean breezes and the ghosts that might be dancing the dark. One can never tell what lurks in the maritime forests...

It is a colorful time on the island, from gold and pink chrysanthemums on Course No.2, to the rich scarlet and amber Maples along the downtown riverwalk. And no trip would be complete without a bike trek through the lush emerald bamboo groves, to enjoy a basket full of banana sammiches and sweet iced tea in a cozy spot amidst the dunes, with a hammock for napping.

It can be such a busy season of football & festivals yet the quieter moments are far from silent as the cicadas, loon and crickets perform after sunset, and the evening lanterns have been lit. In addition to all that activity on the gridiron, faerways and beaches, this month's fun includes:

Diwali, Gagaku Dance, Shichi Go San, Cultures Day, Samhain, All Saint's Day, Thanksgiving Dia de los Muertos, Veterans' Day, Children's Day, Remembrance Day, Diabetes Awareness Month, Native American Month, Arab American Month, International Drum Month, The Leonid Meteor Shower Viewing, A Catgirl Island Film Festival, and the end of Daylight Savings Time!

Aloha, y'all! Here are the Catgirl Island Mews and Announcements for September, 2007!

Maples blaze with gold and red Fall color as September ushers in the season of Autumn, with loosened Chrysanthemum petals aloft in the cooler ocean breeze of the mid-Atlantic.

Cicada and crickets chirp to the purr-fect weather on the island, as the firefly glows dance throughout maritime forest and the sporty islanders welcome football to the fields of green.

This month's purr-ticularly festive with many a matsuri, concerts, exhibits & athletic events. Let's not forget the arrival of the mew Fall fashions that happy catgirls hope to purr-chase!

There's the Wind & Kite Bon, Ocean Boat Parade, Lion Dance, Downtown Music Festival, Grandparents Day, The Mermaid Matsuri, Autumnal Equinox and Chrysanthemum Week.

September also means back to school for the mermaids, and a new cat-a-log of courses for the kitties. There's even aerial belly dance and catnip bonsai classes at the art center!

Mews & Announcements for July, 2007

Aloha! July on Catgirl Island means sizzling summer fun approaching the Solstice, with plenty of festivals, sports, and catnaps on the beach, hammocks, and rooftops.

It is peak season for the Iris and Lotus in bloom, and the fireworks in celebration of Independence Day will be the biggest display of the year! Among the other Matsuri are the stonecraft & lapidary expo, an equestrian event, regatta, monthly artwalk by the river with much live mewsic and the exciting lantern & fire dancing festival! Yay!

Other mew things of note: we recently added a few more pics to the galleries of the Moonsium of Art, expanding gallery 1 with more of Mike's illustrations and a couple more delightful images by friends in the guest gallery. Meanwhile the Catgirl Critics are purrpared to publish their latest reviews at their monthly Media Mewsings page!

Mews & Announcements for June, 2007

Aloha y'all!

Summer is here, which means bustling fun, on sand 'n surf... anywhere under the sun! Kites & balloons fill the sky so blue, of course the shaded inland areas are hopping too -from golfers at morning tee by the sea, to caffe shoppers sipping their own tea casually; along the bike paths spin the cyclists' wheels, and into the boats tasty fishies are reeled!

The surfboards are waxed, the hammocks are strung, and from many eaves the Coy Windsocks are hung. From Salsa to Hula & Belly there's dance, the vernal breeze on the coast fills hearts with romance! Crowds mingle with drinks in galleries open quite late; and platters of sushi are served, made from eels (caught with bait)!

Azalea, Peony, and Lotus all bloom, while at night the festivals' fireworks go BOOM! Scent of iris and Wisteria linger in air, as bikinis and volleyballs bounce everywhere. Yacht sails are raised for a day on the ocean, as sunbathers spread on the SPF lotion. Softballs are swung at in hopes of home runs, and catgirls eat nummy cinnamon buns.

Yeah, we like it here!

If you've not visited in a while, you'll notice a few additions. In the Moonsium of Art. We've added some wonderful new illustrations by guest artist friends. There is even more of my own art on display; with Gallery 4 full, we opened Gallery 5, and gosh it is almost full too! It's been a prolific time between the newer creations and some older works we dusted off.

We hope you'll enjoy the imagery!

That first one is our pal Jamie's (Clan of the Cats) monthly commentary on classic older horror, science fiction & fantasy films. The second site is also a monthly page dedicated to those genres, but in a more a chatty discussion of recent films, TV, books, comics, etc. Thirdly, Trinoc*coN is the Triangle Area's Speculative Fiction Conference in it's 8th year!

Mews & Announcements for May, 2007

Hi folks- we're back! Allow me to explain what happened... Back in 1998 I started to ponder a website to showcase my artistry, with catgirls as your tour guides to give the site a hopefully aMEWsingingly memorable quality, and that ultimately evolved into a mythical place I created & named Catgirl Island (long before any other folks did with other unaffiliated websites of the same name).The site, designed to be a mythical island populated by catgirls and mermaids and fae off the North Carolina coast (see map) went online in early 2000 to showcase my own illustrations, photography, stories, and even a few choice tidbits by guest contributors. Who knew that just a couple of years later I'd be dealing with certain anxieties in my life and grow quite weary of maintaining a web site, dealing with spammers, telemarketers, art thieves, imitators, server outtages and so forth. And so it was with a great deal of sadness that just a few years later I failed to renew the domain name, then catgirlisland.com, and I shut down the website. Which unfortunately allowed some unknown other person to snag that domain name. But I suppose absence make the heart grow fonder, as I later began to regret shutting down my site, especially as an illustrator/ designer trying to make a living by drawing catgirls, going to conventions & art shows and telling customers that I no longer had a website, when it seemed that everyone else did.

Many a friend and client would often say how they missed my site and hoped I'd restart it someday. Plus,the catgirls were getting bored. So after a lot of soul-searching I am no proud to declare that the original, first, official Catgirl Island is back online, with a slightly new look and a new URL, catgirlisland.net. Accept no substitute! The site is just now being rebuilt from cat scratch, so it'll be a while before we're fully restored, with all the old images plus many new ones y'all might not have seen. Please bear with us- we're getting there And by 'we', I refer to myself and my dear old friend Jamie Robertson whom I've known since elementary school Jamie is the co-designer of this '2.0' and the webmaster, as if that were not enough on his plate because he's already busy enough with his own Clan of the Cats, Sebo's Kitty Klub and other fare. Jamie, I canna thank you enough! While I'm at it, there are others I wish to thank. There's Margaret Coin, who taught me so much about the computer and how to use the software that was the architecture for Catgirl Island years ago. Then there's my pal Mike Teague, who was my poor over-worked webmaster on the old site. There are so many other members of family, friends, and clients, that if I were to name you all this little message would cease to be a 'little' message, but over time I hope to acknowledge all of y'all here where the catgirls enjoy their festive fun under the moon and sun. Speaking of which, they have been patiently waiting for me to bring them their fish sammiches for some time now, so enough rambling for now. Expect more soon... and be well!
